Oliver A Dyer

Oliver Audubon Dyer was born January 16, 1951, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Willie Turner and the late Geraldine Dyer. Oliver accepted Christ and was baptized at an Early age. He was educated in Orleans Parish public schools, University of New Orleans and Loyola University in New Orleans.

Major Oliver Dyer (Retired) was commissioned in the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant, initially trained as a personnel officer. While on active duty, he served as a primary staff officer in the 3rd/9th Pershing and the 6th/33rd Lance Nuclear Missile Battalions. After completing his active-duty service, he continued his military service in the U.S. Army Reserve. He held various commander positions at company and battalion levels as well as primary staff officer positions at battalion and Theater Army levels. He was awarded several medals and commendations including the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service and the Army Commendation.

Oliver has always been an educator, whether it was computer programming, business management, or math; he has taught in the university setting, grade school and high school. He enjoyed baseball, bike riding, and jogging, to name a few.

He was diagnosed with advanced cancer in 2018 and with God’s grace, fought a courageous battle. He passed away peacefully at home with hospice and a caring family early Friday morning on November 29th.

Oliver was a loving, devoted father to his sons, Julien Okpara and Lucien Barake, and husband to his wife of 25 years, Cathy Foy Dyer. He was preceded in death by his brother, Alvin Dyer (2023), special friend, Joachim Rochon (2023), and a host of other relatives and Friends. He leaves to mourn and celebrate his life his brothers, Minister Horace Dyer, John Edward Dyer; sister-in-law, Nadine Fay; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and other family and Friends.
