Leo V. Jensen, 93, of Ivoryton, Connecticut, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2019. He leaves behind a legacy which provided the world with beauty, color, and imagination. He was born on July 10th, 1926 to a family of circus entertainers, and developed his skill as rodeo star at the age of nine. Leo starred with everything from horses to bulls. His career as a young circus performer ended at thirteen, when he discovered his passion for art. He embarked on his life’s work beginning with the Minneapolis Institute of Art, in Minnesota. Leo produced an immense amount of artwork over his life time, incorporating many different styles, mediums, materials, and inspirations. His great accomplishments in the artistic world led Leo to many unique privileges; one being an invitation to the White House after his participation in an “Art in Sport” exhibit in Washington D.C. in 1981. Leo’s artwork has been featured in magazines and galleries, as well as in other public places. He is featured in Peter Falk’s book, “Rediscovering Masters” which focuses on Leo more personally, his unique background, and where his inspirations and abstract concepts came from. Of all Leo’s notable achievements, one might be the most notable. With the assistance of the Centerbrook Architects, and under the employment of the State of Connecticut, Leo was proud to offer the four bronze frogs that sit atop the Willimantic Bridge, which spans the Willimantic River, and joins Route 66 and Route 32. Truly, a great testament to his Leo’s memory and his legacy. He will be missed especially by his wife Dalia Ramanauskas, of sixty-three years, as well as by their nieces and nephews. Leo was predeceased by his two brothers, Glenn Duke Jensen and Myles Patrick Jensen. To express a condolence or share a memory with Leo’s family, please visit: www.rwwfh.com.
