John Stangel, a cherished resident of Old Saybrook, Connecticut, passed away on December 30, 2023, at the age of 65, surrounded by close friends and family after a short battle with cancer. Born on August 19, 1958, in Queens, New York, to John and Sheila (Sullivan) Stangel. He grew up in Glenn Cove, New York, and graduated from St. John’s University.
John is survived by his wife Patrice (Frattaroli) and four children Shane, Katie, Aubrey, and Erin, as well as honorary daughter Samantha Calabrese (Frattaroli), her husband Rob Calabrese, and their two daughters. Additionally, he is survived by his parents, six younger siblings, Peter (Tara), Patricia Brooks (Jay), Stephen, Matthew (Ruth), Theresa (Julie), & Paul (Helen).
Known for his deep love of music and perpetual sense of humor, John's warmth and kindness will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was an entrepreneur at heart and founded Connecticut River Lumber Company in 2011. May he rest in peace, leaving behind a legacy filled with love and laughter.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM on January 13 at Christ the King Church, 1 McCurdy Road, Old Lyme, Connecticut, with reception to follow at 1 pm at Fireman’s Field, 210 Elm St, Old Saybrook, Connecticut.
