Ernest James Dodson

Ernest James Dodson, 86 of Old Saybrook, CT arrived in heaven on Saturday, December 9 2023. He was born in Bitner, Pennsylvania on October 16, 1937 to Mollie Rhodes Dodson and James Elmer Dodson. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1954 at the age of 17 and was proud to be a Korean War veteran. He served on USS Arcadia from 1954-1957 and he was stationed in Puerto Rico from 1958-1959. He served on the USS Suribachi from 1959-1962. He ended his military career in Norfolk, Virginia in 1964.

In 1968 he moved his family to Old Saybrook. He was an active member of St Johns Parrish, Knights of Columbus, American Legion and VFW. He was employed by the Dibella family at Luigi’s Restaurant until his retirement.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary (Murray) Dodson, his daughter Donna Anne Dodson, his siblings Ronald, Mary Lou, John Wayne and Oma “Bud” Dodson and Florence (Bess) Ogle. He is survived by his daughters, Deborah (Michael) Olsen and Patricia (John) Higgins. His grandchildren Melissa Olsen, Patrick Higgins, Nicole Higgins, Matthew Olsen, Amanda Olsen and his great grandson Mason Olsen, his sister Goldie Mansberry of Fairchance, PA and his brother, Eddie Dodson of Smithfied, PA.

Ernie was a devout catholic, devoted husband and father. His wisdom and wit will be missed by all who knew him.
