William Bill Andrew Sarber

William Andrew “Bill” Sarber died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at the age of 93. Bill was born on January 27, 1920 in Seward Township, Kosciusko County, Indiana the second of four children to Earl F. and Edna Sarber.

Bill graduated from Burket High School, Indiana in 1937. He attended the International Business College in Fort Wayne, Indiana and graduated in 1939. He was employed in office machine sales by Underwood, Elliot, Fisher Company and Remington Rand until he was drafted into the US Army on November 28, 1941.

While in the Army, Bill was assigned to the Signal Corps and worked in the Codes and Ciphers division. In August 1942 he boarded the Queen Elizabeth in New York City to go to his overseas duties in Ireland, London, Paris and finally Germany. Bill received the Bronze Star for meritorious service during WWII.

Bill married LaVerne M. Novak on December 1, 1951 in Warsaw, Indiana. He worked for the Mountain Bell Telephone Company from 1952 until his retirement in 1982. He reached one of his life’s goals of drawing a pension longer than he worked for the company. Bill was very active in retirement. He taught himself how to use a computer and was a member of several local computer clubs. He served as a county Election Judge, a committee member of the Littleton Liquor Authority and was an arbitrator for the National Labor Relations Board. He loved playing the lotto and was an avid horse race enthusiast. He and LaVerne also traveled in retirement.

Bill is survived by his wife, LaVerne; sons, Steve Sarber of Littleton, CO and Tom Sarber and his wife, Betsey of Littleton, CO; and his daughter, Catharine Mudd and her husband, Lou of Fruita, CO. He also leaves the world a better place with his three grandchildren, Emily Sarber of Littleton, CO, Michael Mudd of the Dominican Republic and Anna Mudd of Wooster, OH.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, April 14 at 2 PM at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6601 S Colorado Blvd in Centennial, CO.
