Susan Joy Sutton (née Sherbon), nicknames “Munch” and “Tuney,” was born to Daniel Worth and E. Carol Sherbon (née Dickenson) on February 20, 1970. She was a twin to Howard and a sister to Patricia Allison and Robert Sherbon.
Growing up in San Jose, CA she enjoyed walks to the park, slurpees from 7-11, a trip to see her Grandma in Canada, and visiting her mom at work. She volunteered as a candy striper, with Good News clubs, and taking a Missions Trip to Baja with her Youth Group.
She accepted Christ at an early age, attended Christian school, and graduated from Andrew Hill High School in 1988. One of her favorite memories was meeting Kelly Way. They became best friends and remained so throughout her life.
In the summer of 1989, she went to work at Mount Hermon Conference Center in the Preschool Age Day Camp. The following 3 summers she moved up to the Elementary Day Camp program, and in 1992 she met her husband-to-be, Craig Sutton. They dated into the fall and became engaged in November 1992. Through that fall, they stayed at Mount Hermon. Susan worked for an After School Program and Craig was an Intern. He was offered a position the following April at Silver Spur Camp and they were married May 31, 1993 at Mount Hermon.
In Spring 1994 they moved to Colorado and in September 1995 they became Resident Managers of High Country Lodge in Breckenridge, CO. During the slow season, Susan went to work at Taco Bell in Frisco, CO, where she loved practicing her Spanish.
In 1997, they moved to the Denver area. Susan worked part-time for Mission Hills Church as a custodian while Craig was an employee at Courtesy Ford. In 1999, Susan became a mom with their first daughter, Electa, followed by their son Everett in 2001. Susan enjoyed working for a few MOPs programs and playing the guitar for preschools in the area. In 2005, their daughter Esther came along and made the family complete.
Susan was a stay-at-home mom for several years, during which she valued discipling her children through day programs, Vacation Bible Schools, and memorizing the Lord’s Prayer at bedtime. She spent every morning in her living room chair reading a Jesus Calling devotional and spending time in prayer. In 2014, she rejoined the workforce at King Soopers. She started as a courtesy clerk and then was asked to join the Pharmacy Team later that year. She loved working at the register and making customers and coworkers smile.
This was the position she held until September 2020, when she underwent surgery for the removal of a tumor on her right temporal lobe, diagnosed as Glioblastoma Multiforme IV, malignant cancer. She was able to return to work while using an Optune device to keep the cancer at bay. In October 2022, a new tumor formed in the same location. While recovering in the ICU from her 3rd resection surgery, she experienced a stroke that caused a left-side deficit in her motor control and vision.
Another small tumor was found in March of 2023 and was treated by focused radiation. All of this led to her resignation from her position as a certified Pharmacy Tech in May 2023.
In February of 2024, she went on hospice care in her home. She set a goal with her care team and family to see the graduations of her two younger children from college and high school. After several months of quality time with Electa and Craig, she returned home to Heaven on May 29, 2024, having witnessed both Everett and Esther’s graduation ceremonies. She will be remembered for her outspoken and sincere faith, her expressive laughter and dancing, and the hope she carried in Christ’s healing that awaited her. She is survived by her husband Craig; children Electa, Everett, and Esther; sister Patricia; brothers Robert and Howard; best friend Kelly Way; and 21 nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Carol Sherbon.
