Sarah was a longtime Denver area resident, but was born in Albuquerque on Easter Sunday, April 18, 1954 to parents Henry and Marilyn Kil. She passed away on Thursday June 2 after a sudden illness associated with her courageous 20-year battle with cancer.
Sarah was an extraordinarily talented teacher, affectionate mother and grandmother, loving wife and a wonderful friend to so many. Sarah was a much admired and humble lady, who changed every life she came in contact with. Words used most often to describe her are gentle, sweet, kind and beautiful.
After spending her younger years in Albuquerque, Sarah graduated from the University of New Mexico. She also earned a Master of Education degree from the University of Texas at Austin and had a rewarding career of almost 30 years as an elementary school teacher.
From an early age, Sarah was inspired to work with special needs children, and she dedicated most of her teaching years to students who faced difficult challenges in school and life. Sarah had an effective
soft-touch teaching style based on her genuine desire for all her students to reach their highest potential. Sarah was a respected Special Ed and fourth grade teacher at Greenwood Elementary School for nearly 25 years.
Sarah met her husband, Shaun, in high school and they remained close over the years. Then, after they both completed graduate school, they were married in Albuquerque on January 30, 1982. They have two children, Kevin and Laura. In 1985, Sarah moved to Denver with Shaun and one-year old Kevin. Laura was born in Denver in 1990. Sarah was a dedicated mother, always involved with her children and their many academic, athletic and scouting activities. She was overjoyed with the recent birth of her first grandchild, James, and was looking forward to welcoming her second grandson, Jackson, in July.
Sarah was a soft spoken, kind and gentle soul, who always relied on a deep spiritual awareness. Her passing is a tremendous loss for all who knew and loved her.
Sarah was predeceased by her father, Henry Kil. She is survived by her mother Marilyn Kil of Greenwood Village; siblings Cathy (Keith) Bryan, Maryland; Patrick (Judi) Kil, Oregon; Dennis Kil, Arvada; her husband of 40 years, Shaun White, Denver; son Kevin (Ashley) White, Westminster; daughter Laura (Joseph) Stroup, Wheat Ridge; grandson James and many nieces and nephews.
