Ray was born in Denver, Colorado and was the only child of Charles "Chuck" Hoffman and Cora Westcott Hoffman. He grew up working side by side with his father at the family printing company, Majestic Litho. Following his graduation from South High School in 1956, he entered the military and was a communications specialist in the Army at Fort Chaffe (Arkansas) where he was known for his Morse code speed. Next, he attended Colorado State University (Fort Collins) where he studied Electrical Engineering but changed his degree to Psychology because he felt that he was a people person. Following a memorable trip to South America, Ray began working at Majestic Litho full time.
Ray married Patricia Redding in 1962, and they had three children, Chris, Kerry and Craig. The family enjoyed many years of traveling with Ports of Call and spent weekends fishing in Grand Lake. Ray was a past president of the Denver Junior Chamber of Commerce and an avid squash player for many years. He was a dedicated sailor with the BowMar Yacht Club and enjoyed racing his sailboat on Wednesday nights and Sundays and was a coach for the junior sailors. Above all, Ray was dedicated to providing promising futures for his children.
In 1998, Ray married Carla Mae Powers, and the combined family now included her children -- Regina, George, Jerry, and Jim. He continued to run the printing business and discovered new hobbies including hunting and cooking. The holiday meals he hosted for his extended family were wonderful affairs. Ray and Carla were soon joined by their faithful sidekick Tia, a Bichon Frise', who enjoyed being pampered and spoiled. Ray was incredibly dedicated to his sobriety, as well as mentoring others as an AA sponsor. He changed many lives with his hard work.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Chuck and Cora Hoffman, and his wife, Carla Hoffman.
He is survived by his children, Christopher Ray Hoffman and his wife Kathryn Forrest, Kerry Lynn Hoffman, and Craig Redding Hoffman and his wife Katy Hoffman; stepchildren Regina Davies and her husband Tom Davies, George Rock IV, Jerry Rock, and Jim Rock and his wife Heather; grandchildren Amanda Martin, Michael Hoffman, Sean Hoffman, Moth Hoffman, Jill Hoffman, Marie Rivera (Mike), Eric Archer, George Rock V, Taylor Lynn Rock, and Conner Rock; and great grandchild Mackenzie Grace Rivera.
