at her home in Lakewood, Colorado. She leaves behind her husband of ten years, David Byma, and a daughter, Sophia, aged 11 months.
Lauren Elizabeth Wiersma was born in Denver, CO, in 1990. She was a healthy baby, an exuberant toddler, and a joyful, caring child. She attended Denver Christian Schools, graduating in 2008. She participated enthusiastically in band and drama activities. She attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, receiving a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2012. Over the years, she served as a children and youth ministries coordinator at Wellshire Presbyterian Church; a preschool teacher at Front Range Christian School; a specialized dyslexia tutor at Colorado Reading Center; and a customer service specialist for BookShark homeschool curriculum company. Since the birth of her daughter in November, 2023, Lauren delighted in her role as a full-time mother.
Lauren struggled for much of her life with a variety of chronic health conditions, including fibromyalgia, which caused her to be in near-constant pain. Most recently, she was experiencing anemia and erratic blood pressure, which are believed to have contributed to her passing away in her sleep. Lauren rarely complained about her many symptoms, instead focusing on her deep faith in God, her goofy sense of humor, and the close relationships that meant so much to her.
Lauren will be remembered by many as a wonderful friend, one who listened deeply, counseled lovingly, and laughed easily. She loved board games, jigsaw puzzles, pottery painting and popcorn.
Lauren is survived by her husband and daughter; her parents, David and Lia Wiersma; her brother, Joshua Wiersma; her sister and brother-in-law Catherine Wiersma and Kody Bartley; her grandmother, Emilie Wiersma, all in the Denver area; her grandfather, William Martin of Mahwah, New Jersey; her parents-in-law, Charles and Rhonda Byma of Zeeland, Michigan; her sister-in-law Lori Byma of Ripon, California. She is preceded in death by her grandfather, Ralph Wiersma, and grandmother, Jessie Martin.
Flowers may be sent to Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to contribute financially toward the Bymas’ expenses may do so by following this link: https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/011295
