Kevin Francis Doherty (age 63), beloved husband, father, Papa, son, brother, uncle, co-worker and friend, passed away on November 7, 2017 after his terrible battle with brain cancer. We will never forget his constant teasing of his wife, Joyce, his dedication to his children, Erin and Patrick, and the never-ending happiness that his grandchildren brought him.
Kevin was born in Boston before moving to Philadelphia and then to Syracuse at the age of 10. Once in Syracuse, the Doherty family moved onto Elm Street where Kevin met his future wife, Joyce. Joyce and Kevin grew up on Elm Street and went to Cicero High School together, where Kevin graduated in the top 10% and Joyce in the bottom 10% - which he frequently reminded her of! They were married in 1980 and after moving around several times for Kevin's job, finally settled in Colorado in 1988. Despite the absence of family close by, Kevin and Joyce built a wonderful life for themselves and their children, making amazing friends that have turned into family, putting their children through All Souls, then Mullen High School and never missing a soccer, baseball or volleyball game along the way. Once older, Kevin and Joyce's focus shifted to their grandchildren, whom they spoiled relentlessly.
Jack, Beau, Cash and Ava - Papa came to life again when you were born. His greatest joy in life was watching you, taking you to school, Donut Day, Milkshake Day, going to practices, never missing a game, Nerf wars, teaching you to march, dance, and reminding you that there is no “T.O.” when you’re playing with Papa. We will never let you forget him and his traditions will live on through all of you.
We hope you’re back to doing the gauntlet for 70+ minutes/day, watching your favorite movies, running with all our pups + Dorese, and watching football + drinking bottomless milkshakes with Grandpa. We know you’ll be tuning into the kids’ baseball and lacrosse games, graduations, parties, spelling tests, holidays and will find a way to tease mom whenever you can.
You always told me and Patrick that you wanted to give us a better life than what you had. All I can say is DONE. Thank you for the best life and the most wonderful memories. You are truly one-of-a-kind and WE LOVE YOU. 🍀💚🍀
Thank you for all of the prayers, cards, texts, and Facebook messages. My dad impacted so many people and we are so thankful to hear all your memories and how he was a part of your lives. From his Midwest/CBK people to Syracuse friends to family to friends of mine and Patrick’s to our Arthur Lane crew and all our Colorado friends that have become family - your love and constant support have been invaluable - THANK YOU - we love you all and so did he. The loss we are feeling is massive and you continue to help us through this immensely difficult time.
