Ken was born in Baltimore, Maryland to James Beverly Walter and Frieda Caroline Fuller. He grew up and went to high school in Cockeysville, Maryland with his two brothers Jim and George Walter, working at the family Sunoco station. Ken moved to Longmont, Colorado for his health in 1951 and worked construction, marrying in 1952 and becoming a father in 1953.
Everyone who knew Ken could agree that he was a devoted family man, and enjoyed his home, which was designed and built by Ken and Bev. Always a car guy, Ken owned and restored several classic cars over the years, winning some competitions. He started and founded Walter’s Auto Specialties in 1958, which is still a successful business in Sheridan, Colorado. In 1991, Ken Sr. retired from Walter’s Auto Specialties, and his son Ken Walter Jr. and daughter-in-law Sally took over the family business.
Ken will be dearly missed by his wife of 40 years, Bev, and his children Kathleen Wagner, Ken Jr. (Sally Walter), Jennifer Gross (Jeff Gross), and Traci Campbell. Ken is also leaving behind grandchildren Lisa Cybul (Joe Cybul), Jessika Wagner (Isaak Scheuenstuhl), Bill Walter (Amanda Walter), Kristina Walter, Steven Gross, and Becky Gross, and his great-grandchildren Valerie and Vincent Cybul, and Allyson and Kennedy Walter.
Ken is proceeded in death by his daughter Marilyn Walter, first wife Nita Walter, and brothers George and Jim Walter.
Services for Ken with be on Wednesday February 23rd at 2 pm at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary and Cemetery, 6601 South Colorado Blvd. Centennial, CO 80121.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Autism Society, at autismsociety.org. An alternate suggestion is to take your family out for an appreciation dinner because family is everything.
