.John R. Lowry was a Colorado native, he was born in Denver on March 6, 1944. He went to be with the Lord and his loving wife on October 16, 2021. He was 77 years young. He is survived by his daughter Amy Richie and husband Brian, three grandsons-Jarrett (17), Casey (15), and Pryce (12). Brother, Gordon Lowry and wife Bette. John has three nieces, Carrie Lowry, Jamie Sanders and Lisa Jack. Two nephews, Chris Lowry and Jason Andrews and a host of extended family. John was preceded in death by his wife Judy Beth, parents John D. and Virginia Lowry.
John grew up here in Denver and graduated from Denver East High School in 1962. He went on to attend college at Abilene Christian. He was then drafted to serve our nation in 1968 In the Vietnam War. Although this is not something he spoke much about, we are grateful for his service and his safe return home to begin his life. He met Judy in 1971 and they married Nov. 3, 1972. John worked for the City of Englewood and the Denver Housing Authority and continued to do accounting work through numerous other organizations.
John’s passion was fishing and the river. There simply were never enough hours in the day for John to fish. It never mattered if he caught anything as long as he was on the river. However, any good fisherman has a story about that big one that got off the line or the big one they caught but no one was around to see it. Along with fishing and the river John loved the mountains and he would do just about anything to be in them. The mountains were ALWAYS calling him.
Above all else John, or Bubby as we so lovely called him, loved his grandsons. No one spent more hours at baseball games or football games than Bubby. If there was a game to attend, he was there. He loved his grandsons more than he could ever express and he wanted nothing more than to see them excel at what they love.
He was a quiet, reserved, simple man. He didn’t like attention and wasn’t always the best with words but there is no question he loved his family fiercely and we all knew how much he loved us. We love him and will miss him until we meet again.
Private Services for John will be held at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary and Cemetery. Donations in John's memory can be made to Wounded Warrior Project or Colorado Parks and Wildlife in Lieu of Flowers.
