Jerry Dean Hanes, age 88, of Denver, Colorado passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022. Jerry was born October 25, 1933 in Des Moines, Iowa to John Holoman Hanes and Vera Margaret Hanes. Jerry went to Des Moines Technical High School and went on to enlist in the United States Air Force where he was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. Jerry married the love of his life, Dorothy Jean Klingaman, on October 14, 1956 in Redfield, Iowa, and the couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in October 2021.
Jerry had worked in various fields, a family auto shop, Northwestern Bell Phone Company, but found his way back to work with airplanes, starting as a lead aircraft mechanic for the Frontier Airlines, the first company. Jerry was also a member of the American Legion and was always a proud member of the churches he had attended for many years.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jean Hanes, his children Nancy Jo Gill (Mark), Karen Lynn Hanes, and Janet Lee Nolan (Mark); his grandchildren Joshua Gregory Gill, Brandon Joseph Gill Lynzey Jean Gill, Nicholas Michael Nolan, Michael Joseph Nolan, Elizabeth Marie Nolan; great grandchildren Ehro Paulo Viana Gill, Ayla Viana Gill, Mila Viana Gill, Landon Robert Beach, Willow Emberly Beach, Tobias Dean Beach and Charleigh Sue Nolan, and his nephews, Douglas John Hanes, Steve Eugene Hadley, John Charles Hadley, Jim Alan Hadley, and niece Susan Lynn Hadley.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father John Holoman Hanes, his mother Vera Margaret Hanes, his brother Joseph Willard Hanes, and numerous other Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.
Services will be held at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary on Monday April 18th, with a visitation at 9 am followed by a memorial service at 10 am with a reception to follow. A committal service will occur Monday, April 18, 2022 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Ave., Denver, CO 80436 at Staging Area B.
Serving as pallbearers are Joshua Gill, Brandon Gill, Mark Gill, Mark Nolan, Nicholas Nolan, Michael Nolan, Doug Hanes, and Steve Hadley.
