Jan Yeager
October 7th, 1938 – December 21, 2013
Jan Yeager was born on October 7th, 1938 in Spring Valley, Minnesota to Norman C. and Evelyn Mae Larsen. Jan passed away on December 21, 2013 surrounded by her daughter, son and sister.
As a young family, they moved from Spring Valley, MN to Monticello, IA and Huron, SD. Finally settling in Minot, North Dakota in 1947. Jan attended Minot Model High School where she graduated. Jan was a majorette with the Minot Model High School marching band, as well as having played the percussions. Jan was a part of the Homecoming Queen’s Court and quite active in the drama department. Jan also spent summers at the family cabin at Lake Metigoshe, ND. Even after Jan retired she didn’t miss a summer visiting her childhood friends and classmates at the lake!!
In 1960 Jan attended the University of Arizona where she obtained her Bachelors of Science degree in Education. While pursuing her degree, she met her future husband, William Michael Yeager and was married. With that union 3 children were born.
In 1972, as a wife and mother, Jan went on to obtain her Master’s degree in education.
Jan had a host of career endeavors. She started as the Minot TV station’s “on air” weather girl. Jan then decided to put her first degree to good use and became a Jr. High School Physical Education teacher in Yuma, AZ. Jan decided she needed a change in her life, so she moved to Denver, CO in 1978 where she worked as the Director of a Modeling Agency for several years. Jan then found her most rewarding position in 1981 with United Airlines. In 2003, after 22 years of service she settled into her retirement. Jan enjoyed working the NY Times crossword puzzles, going to the pool with grandkids and great-grandkids and visiting with her friends from the “Green Belt Saloon”.
Jan’s passion was her dogs!! She usually had at least 2 or 3 dogs at any given time. Jan then was given an opportunity to foster dogs that had been rescued from puppy mills. She eventually became a proud “forever mommy” of two rescued dogs, Tobi and Tabi, who brought her great love and comfort until the very end.
Jan is survived by her daughter, Kelly Clayborn (Steven) of Aurora, CO and her son, Patrick Yeager (Mary Ann) of Thornton, CO. She was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Robert (T.R.) Yeager. She had 2 sisters, Norma Ann (Nana) Huff – Deceased , Constance Mae Larsen of Indio, CA and a brother, Terry Larsen of La Quinta, CA, along with 3 half-brothers - Dean DeVries of Burnsville, MN, Chuck Larsen of Salem, OR, and Clint Larsen of San. Diego, CA. She had 4 grandchildren, Shawna Allen, Devon Allen, Collin Yeager and Logan Yeager. She also had 4 great-grandchildren; Amari, Aniah, Santino and Ava. Jan had a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and co-workers who loved her dearly and will cherish her memory. She will be genuinely missed.
