Dennis Michael Kotelko, M.D. was born on March 26, 1952 to Roman and Marie Kotelko in Saskatchewan, Canada. He was called home into God’s loving arms on April 18, 2023 at the age of 71. He was surrounded by the love of his family at our home, and all four children were able to be with him for the last part of his journey.
Dennis and his two brothers (Zenon and Terry) were raised on a farm in rural Canada, and spent their growing up years playing hockey, attending church camps, getting in trouble with their cousins, and flying planes while with the cadets. He was a high achiever and a role model for his younger brothers. He was interested in medicine and science from a young age and was often seen in photos as a child with a stethoscope around his neck. He received his Medical Degree in 1976 at the University of Saskatchewan. He completed an internship in Michigan, followed by a residency in Anesthesiology at Royal University Hospital Saskatoon, Canada. After a fellowship at UCSF, he worked as an Obstetrical Anesthesiologist at Cedar Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. It was here that he met and married Kathi Wick, R.N. on August 9, 1992. In 1994, trading the surf for the mountains, Dr. Kotelko moved his family to Denver and worked with Metro Denver Anesthesia until 2008, medically directing high-risk OB anesthesia at Pres./St. Luke’s Medical Center. In 2008, his medical career took a new direction as he became passionate about Anti-aging, Functional, and Regenerative medicine and founded a company called Biogenics MD that specialized in wellness and bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. Dr. Kotelko was also the medical director of several medical laser clinics in the Denver area as well as the National Medical Director of the prestigious Rocky Mountain Laser College. In 2017, Dennis and Kathi purchased AOB Med Spa and ran this company side by side with Biogenics MD. AOB Med Spa is still a thriving business in the Denver Tech Center, Greenwood Village, and will continue on as his legacy.
Dennis was an outdoor enthusiast and loved all sports. His life was centered around hockey and skiing and he never missed a day at the gym. He was a huge Avalanche fan and reveled in the Stanley Cup win last year in Denver!
He also adored travel and some of his favorite destinations were Bora Bora, the Caribbean, Italy, France, Spain, England, and South Africa.
His true lifelong passion was his Art. He regularly was featured in local Art Shows and many of his weekends in the summer found him under his tent passionately talking about his work to other art enthusiasts. He enjoyed painting large abstracts, colorful and soulful faces, graphic shapes, and ancient European architecture. He sold a variety of pieces to a number of fine art collectors. Quote: “I feel like I am on vacation when I’m creating and painting. Similarly, I want my viewers and collectors to feel like a carefree melody is running through their heads as my paintings speak to them.”
For Dennis, faith and family were the pinnacles of his life. He was involved in a beloved Men’s group and church membership. He loved spending time with his family, either at gymnastics meets, baseball games, hockey rinks or dance/poms competitions.
Dr. Kotelko is survived by his loving wife Kathi of 31 years; his former wife Karen, his cherished adult children Dr. Alexis Kotelko, Nick (Angie) Kotelko, Dr. Cody Kotelko and Kaitlyn Kotelko, LCSW; his adored brothers Zenon (Michelle) Kotelko and Terry Kotelko and his two furry best friends Milo and Gracie. He was preceded in death by his parents and our beloved dogs Sebastian, Gretzky, and Abby.
Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 3:00pm in the Chapel at Cherry Hills Community Church, 3900 Grace Blvd., Highlands Ranch, CO 80126.
He will be laid to rest at Olinger-Chapel Hill during a small private family ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be made to a charity and ministry that was near and dear to Dennis’ heart.
