Rev. Msgr. John Louis FitzGerald

On December 16, 2023; Rev. Msgr. JOHN L. FITZGERALD passed away. He is the loving brother of Mary Agnes FitzGerald-Conte (the late Dr. John Conte), Joseph FitzGerald (Mary), and the late Delbert FitzGerald, Jr. (Mary – living); dear uncle to 11 nieces and nephews, 24 great nieces and great nephews, and 3 great great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his many friends from the many fraternal organizations to which he belonged including the Knights of Columbus and Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.

He was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest for the Archdiocese of Baltimore in 1967 by Lawrence Cardinal Shehan and served at parishes in the Archdiocese until 1971 when he joined the U.S. Navy Chaplain Corps where he served for 29 years.

In 2003, Msgr. Fitzgerald established the Apostleship of the Sea ministry to aid seafarers visiting the port of Baltimore.

He spoke multiple languages and held a doctorate in Clinical Psychology and a doctorate in Leadership & Human Behavior.

Family will receive friends from 2-6PM, Wednesday, December 27 and from 10-11AM, Thursday, December 28 at St. Mark Catholic Church, 30 Melvin Avenue, Catonsville, MD 21228. A Wake Service will be held at 5PM on Wednesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM, Thursday. Interment New Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Msgr. FitzGerald Fund for the Apostleship of the Sea, C/O The Catholic Community Foundation, 320 Cathedral Street, Baltimore, MD 21201.
