George Richard Finlay

George Richard Finlay was born on August 24, 1935, to William and Alice Finlay, second child of four. First brother William, second brother Donald and youngest sibling, sister Alice. As a child, student, and young man George was full of life and energy. He graduated from Catonsville High School in 1954 excelling in Soccer, Basketball, Football, Baseball and received all around Highest sports honors and most likely to succeed. Soon after graduating high school George enlisted in the Army, advancing through the ranks quickly. He married and had a daughter, Victoria while serving in Germany. He received his wings upon graduating Officer’s Flight School, flying fixed wing aircrafts and helicopters. High ranking officers sought him out to fly their aircraft while stationed in Germany, and he was the private pilot for the General. Captain George R. Finlay retired from the Army in 1964. As a civilian he returned to Maryland with wife and child after living abroad many years. He became tops in sales for Proctor & Gamble. Thriving on challenges he obtained his Real Estate license and once again success followed him. A few years later second daughter, Valerie was born.

Life brought challenges and changes as we all experience. George met Jo Anne Harrison (nee Padgett) and married a second time adding three children; Laurie, Scott, and Mark, to become a father of five. Career successes continued. He led Sales teams and climbed the ranks of Executive leaders, ultimately becoming president before retiring in Ocean City Maryland. Throughout his life George was there for family, friends, strangers, feral cats, anyone and any living creature. He was an amazing caretaker for his wife Jo Anne who passed away in July of 2017. If he could lend a hand or ear, he was there. George loved his family dearly.

George is survived by sister, Alice Baker, brother Donald Finlay, children; Vickie Keene, Laurie Harrison, Scott Harrison, Mark Harrison and Valerie Morrisey, ten grandchildren; Lauren, Richard, Allie, Neal, Kellie, Emily, Lexie, Nikki, Matt and Zachary, and five great grandchildren; Marley, James, Hannah, Mary, and Noel. All who met and knew George, Pop Pop or Bugs never will never forget him. His charismatic personality and thirst for life touched everyone. Simply put he cared for you and let it be known. He will be missed greatly and carried in our hearts forever, until we meet again.

A graveside service for George will be held Friday, January 6, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, 2150 MOUNT VIEW RD, MARRIOTTSVILLE, MD 21104.
