Peggy was born in Platteville, Colorado on August 6, 1935, to Percy Allen Gahagen and Sarah Jane Markley. Peggy grew up in the Plattevile/Wiggins/Otis areas of Colorado. In 1945, Peggy and her family lost Percy to a farming accident. Sarah Gahagen (her mom), remarried to Carroll Campbell and he became her father and the only grandfather that Peggy’s family ever knew. Peggy graduated from Adams City High School in 1953 and on September 4, 1956, she married the man she would be with for 66 years, Don James Craig. They started their married life together in Fort Collins, Colorado as Don started and finished his veterinarian degree and Peggy worked to help put him through school.
Peggy became an incredible mother to three children starting in 1961. She was a tremendous cook and kept the house very clean. She was a tremendous role model and raised three very appreciative children. Once her children were older, Peggy began working at the Boulder County Clerk’s office in the vehicle licensing department. During Peggy’s career, she worked in many county clerks’ offices including (Adams, Larimer, Boulder, Douglas and Elbert counties). Peggy loved working with the public and interacting with them.
Peggy always loved to watch people and would sit in a restaurant so that she could see what was going on. Much to our dismay, her kids have been told they are being Peggy by practicing the same as their mother. Peggy’s greatest love was spending time with her family, including her 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Peggy was kind and loving and had a great sense of humor. Peggy was always in a good mood and had a terrific smile.
Peggy was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by husband Don Craig of Calhan, CO; daughter Kari (Jer) Rosales of Broomfield, CO; son Mark (Dianne) Craig of Durango, CO; son David (Priscilla) Craig of Lake Tapps, WA; and grandchildren Chad Rosales of Broomfield, CO; Brittany Rosales of Broomfield, CO; Katelyn Craig of Nashville, TN; Payten Craig of Centennial, CO; and one great grandchild. She also has numerous nieces and nephews that she loved and always considered them as a big part of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Sarah Gahagen, stepfather Carroll D. Campbell, brother Russell Gahagen and sisters Janet Shafer and Patricia Bakel.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, June 26th at Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson Chapel - Evergreen Room. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Samaritan’s Purse in Peggy’s honor would be greatly appreciated.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.OlingerAndrews.com for the Craig family.
