Michael Matthews passed away on August 29, 2015 after a short illness. He is survived by his parents Douglas and Magdalen Matthews, his sister Ann Marie Rangel and his adored niece Gracie.
He was born in Denver on February 4, 1974. Michael grew up in southern Jefferson County and attended Bear Creek High school where he played basketball, football and golf. After graduation in 1992, he moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to be near his beloved Tarheels. In North Carolina, Michael worked for Midway and Delta Airlines where he made many friends. Later he spent a year working on oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico before returning to his home in Colorado. At the time of his death he was employed as a Detentions Specialist for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
A Memorial Service will be held at New Hope Presbyterian Church on September 9, at 11am 2015.
