Juanita June (Hummell) House was born on June 16, 1934 to Forest & Bonnetta Hummell on a farm- house south of Elisabeth, Colorado. She was the youngest of three children with two older brothers, Ersel & Russell.
Shortly after being born, Juanita and her family moved into Englewood Colorado where Juanita she grew up and eventually graduated from Englewood High School in 1952. Juanita attended various colleges including Colorado Women’s College, Northwestern Christian College in Minneapolis and Colorado College of Education (UNC) where she graduated with a Bachelors’ Degree in Elementary Education.
Shortly after her graduation from college, Juanita began teaching the 2nd grade at Lowell Elementary school back in Englewood.
Juanita met her husband, Adrian, on Christmas Eve of 1960 while he was attending Denver Seminary. It was a quick courtship as they married on June 30th of 1961. They moved to Mitchell, Nebraska where Adrian began pastoring the Berean church there. Their first son Mark was born in Mitchell. A few years passed and they moved to Cheyenne Wyoming where sons Torrey & Paul were born into the family.
Subsequent moves due to Adrian’s ministry included Los Angeles California, Morrison Colorado, Aurora Nebraska, Englewood Colorado, Vista California and finally Highlands Ranch Colorado. Juanita faithfully served by Adrian’s side as a pastor’s wife, college administrator’s wife and a missionary.
When her husband, Adrian, passed in 1994, Juanita initially struggled with what her role and calling in life would be now. She had been Juanita, the wife of Pastor Adrian House for over 32 years, and now, she was just Juanita. However, God used her powerfully during this time as a women’s speaker at many women’s events traveling as far as Africa and Mexico to share from her heart how to be a faithful servant in the midst of grief.
In her twilight years, as her mobility became limited, she still received many visits from those whose lives she impacted over the years, whether it be family, neighbors, church friends or other loved ones. Her life was one that touched so many, even when she was confined to a wheelchair or bed.
One week before she passed, she shared with her family that she was ready to “Go Home to see the Lord; and I miss your Dad, so much.” Juanita peacefully passed from this earth into the arms of her Heavenly Father on January 11, 2020 around 9:10am.
She is preceded in death by her mother Bonnetta and father Forest, her 2 brothers- Ersel & Russell, her deeply loved husband-Adrian, son Paul and grandson-Tytus. She is survived by her sons Mark (wife-Lyn) & Torrey (wife-Lori) and 7 grandchildren- Geoff (wife-Stephanie), Erik (wife-Bethany), Ryen (wife-Laura), Josiah, Jesse, Jeremiah and Charissa along with 9 great-grand-children: Ezly, Rex, Khray, Hadassah, Lainey, Payton, Jacob, Reese & Journey.
Juanita’s Celebration Of Life Memorial Service will be held this Saturday, January 18th at Englewood Bible Church at 10:00am. The church is located at 3190 S. Grant Street, Englewood, 80110.
