Garrett William Benson

Garrett (Garry) William Benson went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 27, 2019. He was 90 years old. After a 58-year residency in Colorado, Garry moved from Castle Rock, CO to Kansas City, MO in October of this year to live with his eldest daughter and his son-in-law. He was in their home surrounded by family when he passed away.

Funeral Services are planned for 2:30 pm on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Olinger Andrews Funeral Home in Castle Rock, CO.

Garry was born to William (Benny) and Ethel (McCready) Benson on August 22, 1929 in Hammond IN. Garry was a twin; his brother Gerald died just one year and 3 days prior to Garry’s passing. Garry was also preceded by his wife Marian, and 6 other siblings.

Garry grew up and attended high school in Lansing, IL, a Chicago suburb. He was active in Scouting and achieved his Eagle Scout Award on September 2, 1948. In 1952, he attended Briarcrest Bible Institute in Saskatchewan, Canada. It was there he met and later married his beloved wife, Marian Williams. They were married on October 2, 1953 in Eston, Sask, Canada. Garry earned his undergraduate degree from Bryan College in Dayton, TN in 1960, and his master’s degree from Denver University in 1972.

Garry and Marian lived in Saskatchewan, Illinois, Mexico and Tennessee before settling in Colorado in 1961. There they lived in Windsor, Littleton, Parker and Castle Rock. Garry was a Teacher by profession, teaching both High School and Middle School English, Spanish and Special Education, primarily in the Littleton School District. He retired in 1984.

After Marian died in 2010, Garry lived in various independent living facilities. He was a generous and joyful giver. He loved receiving visits, having meals out with family and friends, and was truly grateful for their love and support. He is survived by one sister (Gail Watkins), six children (Beatrice Blanc (Larry), Tim Benson, Eunice Spears (Fred), Loida Robinson (Ken), Rachel Benson (Hamid) and Margarita Johnston (Brian)), 20 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
