Elizabeth Mildred Curtis Stewart was born on December 31, 1924 on the "Bryant" place, west of Sedalia, Colorado to Henry Harper Curtis, Sr. and Ella Mildred Bean Curtis. She entered into Glory on November 1, 2023 (All Saint's Day) at Cantril House in Castle Rock, Colorado. Mildred went to the Oaklands School for eight years and graduated from Douglas County High School in 1943. She graduated from the University of Colorado in 1947 with a degree in Geology. Mildred taught school from 1947-1948 in the old Jarre Creek School before going to work at the Catholic Register from 1948 until 1951.
Mildred was married to J.F. Stewart on may 12, 1951. They bought her Grandparents' home in Castle Rock, Colorado where they lived and raised their children. In 1972, they moved to her parents' home on Oaklands Ranch, where she had been raised. Mildred and J.F. took two trips to Israel and were awed with the experience.
Mildred was a member of Christ's Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday School and youth group, did janitorial services, and was a member of the Alter Guild. When she and J.F. moved to Oaklands Ranch, she returned to her home church, St. Philip in the Field, where she had been Baptised, and repeated those jobs. She was very honored to become one of the first Lay Eucharistic Ministers at St. Philip.
Mildred had many interests (most including teaching children) and served many organizations in the county, among them: Sunflowers Grange (all of her life), the Mission Development committee for the Episcopal Diocese of Colorado, 4-H Leader (50 years), Little Bears Preschool (20 years), Senior Shuttle Driver for many years when she was a Senior. Children, hers and everyone else's were her calling and she made it count for countless children.
Mildred was preceded in death by her beloved J.F., her daughter Michele, her parents, her siblings: Gwen, Winnie, and Bud (Henry Jr.). Surviving her are her daughter Natalie (Michael) Young, her son Phillip Stewart, her grandchildren (three fellers and a fellerette) Travis Stewart (Sydney), Jennifer Karros (Tom), Dylan Rumney (Sarah), Ryak Meeker; her great grandchildren Rachel Clouse (Kihe Taylor), Charles Clouse; great great granddaughter Paisley Taylor; and many beloved nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
