Diane graduated from Pomona High School in Pomona, California in 1956. She attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Denver, and obtained her RN in September of 1959. She then attended the University of California and graduated with a BSN in 1964. Diane went on to obtain a Master's degree in Psychiatric Nursing from the University of Colorado.
Diane was a veteran of the United States Army, where she was a nurse and achieved the rank of Captain. She was stationed in Japan during the Vietnam War, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. She was honorably discharged in 1966.
Her working career included over 30-years at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Denver, Colorado as a Psychiatric Nurse.
Diane was a lifelong dog lover and raised them as her “beloved children.” She was an exceptional dog trainer and many of her dogs competed and became champions in conformation and obedience competitions. Her beloved Flat-Coated Retrievers, Emerson and Carly, competed in Master Hunter training and Emerson achieved the AKC Master Hunter designation.
Even though Diane didn’t have children of her own, she was remarkably devoted to her family. She was always lovingly supportive and unselfishly involved in the lives of her siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Diane was preceded in death by her father Alva Eugene Day, her mother Dorothy McGonagle, and various cousins, aunts, and uncles.
She is survived by family including her sister Micki Hoehne (and husband Bill), brother David Day (and wife Leslie, daughters Natalie and Kristen), niece Stephanie Ballenger (and husband Michael, daughters Madeline, and Savannah Ballenger), niece Gina Dattoli (and sons Talon, Toren, and Saber), Caitlyn (and husband Alex) Walton, cousin Vicki Beltramo (and husband Joseph).
A celebration of life for Diane will be held Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson Chapel, 407 Jerry Street, Castle Rock, Colorado 80104.
