A special education teacher, Ann taught for more than 15 years in the Charter Oaks Unified School District in California, winning several awards for outstanding teaching while earning admiration among administrators, teachers and students. Her love of teaching shows through via the beauty and depth of her smile in the school portrait just above.
The daughter of Clarence Mathais (Mike) Schouvieller and Rosemary Louise Kosek, Ann was born in Watertown, South Dakota on March 21, 1953. She grew up in Bloomington, Minnesota and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1971.
Upon earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Sciences, with High Honors, at the University of California, Riverside, Ann continued her education at the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law earning a Juris Doctorate with distinction.
After a successful career practicing law as an arbitrator, conciliator and litigator on Education issues, Ann enrolled at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, earning R3MM, AAAS and CLAD teaching credentials, before joining the Charter Oaks Unified School District.
Incredibly caring and thoughtful, Ann touched many people’s lives with impressive results fostering substantial improvement in numerous young and other lives.
Athletic in her youth and beyond, Ann enjoyed volleyball and made dozens of friends and met a husband playing in a Church group. A lifelong Vikings fan, she rooted for them together with her
husband’s Forty Niners. She babysat Harmon Killebrew’s children in her youth. Killebrew was a Hall of Fame, Minnesota Twins baseball player.
As an environmentalist, Ann loved the sea. She frequently took her boys to explore and examine the tidepools at Dana Point, California. Her grandchildren still enjoy the benefits of studying and playing with a few specimens it was safe to bring home.
Together with a friend from volleyball, Ann became a NASCAR fan enjoying camping in the infield of the California Speedway for the racing events in the friend’s motorhome. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. was her driver.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Chris Ahlering of Castle Rock, Colorado; her sister Sara Bolkcom and brother-in-law Keith Bolkcom, Chippewa Falls. Wisconsin; her sister Mary Hoover and brother-in-law Forrest Hoover, North Miami, Florida; her brother Craig Schouvieller and sister-in-law Judy Schouvieller, St. Paul, Minnesota; her brother Scott Schouvieller and sister-in-law Michelle Schouvieller, New Hope, Minnesota; her brother David Schouvieller and sister-in-law Jackie Schouvieller, Bloomington, Minnesota, her son David Huffman and his wife Priscilla Huffman and their daughter Valentina and son Francisco, Parker, Colorado, her son Michael Huffman and his wife Sherrie Huffman and their daughter Anastasia, Castle Rock, Colorado, her son James Huffman, Castle Rock, Colorado, numerous nieces and nephews and many other friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)..
A Requiem Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 2746 Fifth Street, Castle Rock, CO 80104 at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2024.
Celebrations of life are being planned for Yorba Linda, California and Bloomington, Minnesota. Details will be available at a later date.
