He is survived by his beloved wife of 74 years, Jean J. Chessin; his three daughters, Linda Chessin (Stephen Wax z’l), Cathy Chessin (Andy Podolnick), and Judy Chessin (Michael Cook z’l); seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. Newton was preceded in death by his parents Sol and Jennie Chessin, and by his brothers Louis and Hy Chessin.
Newton proudly served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps during WWII, stationed in Northern China as a forward observer.
After military service, Newton earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Case Western Reserve University and an M.S. in Organic Chemistry from The Ohio State University. Subsequently, Newton had a successful 48-year career in Materials Engineering with General Electric and Lockheed Martin.
Newton accomplished so much in his life, but he said that his true pride and joy was his family—his long marriage to Jean, the love of his life, and the accomplishments of his daughters and grandchildren. His family members all cherish the memories of his deep love, his patience, his integrity, and his irrepressible sense of humor.
Newton will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors for Newton will be held Friday, November 15, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Glen Haven Memorial Park, 2300 Temple Dr, Winter Park, FL 32789.
