Rev. Wing Yip was born on December 8, 1963, and raised in Hong Kong in a family of five, with one older and one younger brother. After completing high school (HK Form 6) in 1983, he moved to the United States at the age of 19 to attend the University of Louisiana, Lafayette.
During college, he joined the Campus Chinese Student Fellowship and accepted the Lord at age 20. After earning his undergraduate degree in computer science, he attended Dallas Theological Seminary to pursue a Master of Theology. He married his wife, Matilda, while studying at the seminary, and their two children, Rachel and Nathan, were born during this time.
After graduating with a Th.M. degree in 1993, the family moved to the New Jersey/New York areas to serve in several Chinese churches for about nine years. In 2003, they relocated to Raleigh, where he served at Raleigh Chinese Christian Church as the Cantonese Pastor and the North Carolina State University Campus Minister until 2014.
Pastor Yip’s passion for theological teaching and training led him to serve at the Christian Leadership Renewal Center for one year and in 2015 he started serving at the Chinese Mission Theological Seminary. There, he served in various roles as a teaching faculty member, Academic Dean, Academic Vice-President, and President.
In his spare time, he enjoyed reading and helping prepare the backyard garden for his wife to grow vegetables and flowers.
He is survived by his wife, Matilda; daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and John; son and daughter-in-law, Nathan and Amanda; and two grandchildren, Spencer and Aria.
