Thomas Patrick Cawley, a devoted husband, proud father, cherished grandfather, and dear friend to many, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, at the age of 86, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on June 14, 1938, in New York City to Mary McArdle and Patrick Cawley, Tom carried a deep pride in his Irish heritage, with roots tracing back to County Cavan and County Sligo. That heritage was a meaningful thread throughout his life, woven into his values, humor, and enduring spirit.
On August 22, 1964, Tom married the love of his life, Kathleen Crimmins. Together, they built a joyful and welcoming home, one that radiated warmth, laughter, and unwavering love. Their bond was a beautiful example of partnership and devotion, and their legacy lives on through the family they raised together.
With his warm smile, quick wit, and genuine kindness, Tom had a rare ability to make anyone feel at ease. He never met a stranger—just a friend he hadn’t yet made. His natural curiosity and open heart left lasting impressions on all who knew him.
An accomplished athlete, Tom earned a track scholarship to Georgetown University, where he ran a remarkable 4-minute, 12-second mile and cleared a 6-foot, 2-inch high jump. Though he didn’t pick up a tennis racket until his 30s, he played with passion and camaraderie well into his 70s. Whether on the track or the court, his athletic achievements reflected his grit, discipline, and love of competition.
Tom was predeceased by his beloved wife, Kathy, in 2016, and his brother, Joseph Cawley, in 2001. Their memories remained close to his heart always.
Tom is survived by his three sons and their wives—TJ and Kathy, Bill and Mary Liz, and Chris and Sonia—along with his nine adored grandchildren: Katie, Shannon, Ryan, Liza Jane, Lincoln Jix, Mary Kate, Hugh Douglas, Lang, and Magnus. He was endlessly proud of his family and found his greatest joy in being a father and grandfather.
Tom’s legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in all who were lucky enough to know him. May he rest in peace.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held in Larchmont, NY, with details to be shared with friends and family.
