An ardent Christian, Terry is now happily reunited in Heaven with those family members who preceded him in death, namely his parents; his brother, David Preiss; and his daughter, Ginger Preiss. Though he will be dearly missed by the family and friends he leaves behind, all who knew him and of his faith are confident he’s smiling down offering love and comfort, just as he did on earth. Terry is survived by his wife, Marjorie Preiss; his sister, Diane Preiss; his son, George, and Daughter-in-Law, Lori Preiss; his grandchildren Madeline and Lucas Preiss; and nieces Nora Perez, Jenny Burnett and her husband, Mark Burnett.
After graduating Waukesha High School Terry entered the United States Air Force Aviation Cadet Program in Texas. Over the following two decades he served his country as a navigator and pilot through assignments in Wiesbaden, Germany; Vietnam; and North Carolina’s Pope Air Force Base. He retired with the rank of Captain in the early 1980s. It should be noted his wife Marge, whom he married in 1962, was by his side as a military spouse and working mom throughout.
Having attended countless courses of “night school” throughout his USAF career, Terry completed the necessary credits to achieve a college degree in Business Administration and was proud to call himself a graduate of Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC. He put this knowledge to use by opening a successful and long running security systems business in Fayetteville.
Terry was a devoted and active church member who rarely missed a Sunday Service. His faith ran deep and he sought to bring Peace and Joy to all he encountered. He “never met a stranger” and loved to joke, laugh, carry-on and tell stories. Terry was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who gave the best hugs, played catch in the yard, attended school events, took family around the intracoastal waterway in his boat, helped with homework, left messages of support when needed… in short, he was Present so often that there’s no doubt he’ll be with us going forward in our hearts and minds.
We love and miss you so much already. Enjoy your eternal reward for a life well lived!
Two days before he passed away, Terry took part in a charity event supporting the Marfan Foundation. Marfan Syndrome is a genetic “connective tissue” disorder which is rare in the general population, though not rare if it runs in one’s family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to Marfan.org would be greatly appreciated.
The family will have a memorial graveside service for Terry on Monday, April 29, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Campground United Methodist Church Cemetery, 4625 Campground Road, Fayetteville, NC, 28314. Memorial tributes and messages of sympathy can be left by clicking the "Add a Memory" box below. Brown Wynne of Cary is honored to serve the Preiss family.
