He was the son of the late Robert L. Wilcox, Sr. and Helen Miller Wilcox. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Maureen Yearsley Wilcox. Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Roberston and brother, Dr. David Wilcox. Bob & Maureen lived in Wilmington, Delaware, Ridgewood, New Jersey, Atlanta, Georgia, San Francisco, California, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, before retiring to West Chester, Pennsylvania in 1991. They relocated again to Downingtown, PA and finally to Apex, NC.
Bob graduated from P.S. DuPont High School in Wilmington, Delaware in 1948. He attended the University of Delaware and studied accounting. While in college he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, active in the drama group, member and treasurer of the Accounting Club, and active in intra-mural sports. Before graduating from college, Bob had the desire to express his gratitude toward his country and the generation that had preserved our freedom, by serving in the military. So at age 24, he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and served as a navigator and bombardier in the 52nd bomb squadron of the Strategic Air Command from 1954 to 1957. After serving in the Air Force, his first job was as station agent for American Airlines at New Castle Airport near Wilmington, Delaware from 1957 to 1960. When they ceased operations at that airport, he changed careers and joined General Foods Corporation in their credit department and worked there until he retired as Western Region Credit Manager in San Leandro, California in 1985.
Bob met Maureen Yearsley on a blind date in December of 1957. After six months of dating, they married in June of the following year and they had 2 children, Steve and Michele.
Throughout his years, Bob was involved in numerous community activities serving on several Boards including President of the North Umberland Swim club in Atlanta, GA; President of the neighborhood homeowner’s association; and Judge of Elections for the First Ward of West Chester, Pa. Bob also volunteered as a Marshal for 13 years at the McDonalds LPGA Championship golf tournament. He was a longtime member of the West Chester Golf and Country Club in West Chester, PA, serving nine years on the Board of Directors and attaining the offices of Vice-President and President. As well, Bob's gift of administration blessed many churches over his time here on Earth. He served on many church committees and worked in the finance and business management of churches. He also served as the treasurer at the West Chester Methodist Church for many years.
Bob was an avid golfer but also enjoyed many years of family time at various different beaches. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and playing solitaire and he especially liked reading mysteries and was a big James Michener fan.
In addition to his wife Maureen, Bob is survived by his son Steve Wilcox (Jean) of Glen Olden, PA; daughter Michele Wilcox Grow (Steve) of Cary, NC; grandchildren Tyler Grow (Allison) of Apex, NC; Nathan Grow (Kelley) of Cary, NC; Lauren Grow (fiancé Kurt Yana) of Apex, NC; and great grandchildren Asher Grow and Aleesia Grow.
