March 23, 2025, was a joyful day as Melody S. Scott was greeted by a host of heavenly angels who guided Melody through the gates of heaven to enter the presence of Jesus Christ. For the past two years, Melody bravely dealt with many medical issues, and she, not once, complained or felt sorry for herself. Her beautiful, warm smile was always on her face, and her attitude was always remarkably positive. During the past two years, Melody would meet her medical caregivers and greet them with the song “You are my sunshine, my only sunshine……..”
Melody’s compassion for others was exemplified, in part, by always donating money to homeless individuals and her fifteen years of voluntary service to Meals on Wheels of Wake County. Melody also led a group of volunteers in the early stages at Horseshoe Farm Nature Preserve in Raleigh. This group did a lot of grounds keeping in addition to setting up and maintaining birdhouses on the preserve. Melody participated in many bird walks at Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve in Cary. She also led bird walks at the preserve. Melody led bird walks for the organization for which she worked, the North Carolina Environmental Defense Fund. Melody was the Office Manager at the Raleigh office for thirty-three years. She said she was the “Office Mom”. Before her employment with EDF, Melody was employed at First Citizens Bank in Raleigh for fifteen years.
Melody attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro until her marriage to Ronald D. Scott on May 18, 1974. Melody transferred to North Carolina State University and majored in Economics and Business Management. Melody graduated with honors and was initiated as a member into the Omicron Delta Epsilon Honor Society in Economics, Gamma Chapter of North Carolina, in recognition of high achievement in the field of Economics. Melody was a huge Wolfpack fan. Her office was decorated with NCSU banners, flags, and NC State coaches bobblehead dolls. Melody and Ron held season tickets to NC State football and basketball games for forty-eight years.
Melody was a wife who loved her husband for almost fifty-one years of marriage. She believed that you do not put yourself first in a marriage. Marriage is a husband and wife sharing, loving each other, and respecting one another.
Melody and Ron attend the Cary Church of Christ. Melody was baptized by Ron’s cousin, Jimmy Ross, who is a minister at a Church of Christ in Oklahoma. Because of her faith in God, we know she is in Heaven, healed of her medical complications and at peace, smiling.
Melody was preceded in death by her father, Samuel L. Stowe, Sr., and mother, Dorothy Parker Stowe. As well as her brothers, Samuel L. Stowe, Jr. (first wife Laura (deceased) and second wife, Mary (Biz) of Midlothian, Va.) and Randolph D. Stowe (wife Kathy, of Norfolk, Va.)
Melody is survived by her Husband of 50 years, Ronald D. Scott, of Apex. Brother Stephen P. Stowe of Wallace, NC. Nephews: Samuel L. Stowe III (wife Pat, and their children, Chris and Charlotte of Raleigh, NC) and Daniel Scott Stowe (wife Laura and their children, Spenser and Olivia of Bangor, ME).
A visitation for Melody will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 10:00 AM, with a Celebration of her beautiful life to follow at 11:00 AM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home (Cary, NC). A graveside service will take place at noon at Historic Oakwood Cemetery, 701 Oakwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27601.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Melody's memory may be made to Meals On Wheels of Wake County.
