Mary Elizabeth Thrapp followed Jesus’ light to Heaven in the early morning hours of Thursday, December 12, 2024. At the age of 99, Mary lived a full life as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be missed by many: daughter, Sheri Thrapp Jackson and husband, Richard Byrum Jackson; grandchildren, Haley Jackson Coble, Trevor Byrum Jackson and spouses, Tim R. Coble and Stephanie Underwood Jackson; great-grandchildren Wyatt David Coble, Eliza Lynn Coble and Ripley “Rip” Ray Jackson. Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bert William Thrapp – they both served in the US Navy during WWII.
Mary was born and raised in Arlington, MA, the youngest of three girls. After the war, she and Bert followed her widowed mother and oldest sister to Los Angeles. This was a ‘family move’ as the family was close then and remains close today with Mary, aka “Mimi”, fully blessed with several nieces and nephews, as well as grands and great grands. Mary loved her family and always looked forward to birthdays and holidays that were celebrated with extensive family gatherings. With Mary’s love of family, she and Bert retired and moved to the Raleigh-Cary area in 1989 to be close to her daughter and family. Mary’s grandchildren can both attest to the wonderful impact Mary and Bert had in their lives – family moments and memories they will forever cherish.
Mary was a member of Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh and took great pride and joy in her previous time studying God’s Word in Bible Study Fellowship.
A private graveside service for Mary will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at the Historic Oakwood Cemetery, (Veterans Section). The family will hold a memorial service for Mary at Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh in the coming weeks of the new year.
