Marie Wilson Cooper, 97, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 18, 2024. She is survived by her three children: Cathy Oaks, Wade Cooper Jr. (Myrna) and Bob Cooper (Marla); seven grandchildren: Kelly Howard, Kim Flood, Tray Cooper, Ashley Sessoms, Blair Mize, Jessica Viall, and Kyle Pearson; and twelve great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, W.T. Cooper, her sister Margaret Bennett, and her parents: Percy and Mary Wilson.
Marie was a long-time member of Cary First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and worked with Girl’s Auxiliaries in her younger years.
Marie was a founding member of MacGregor Downs Country Club and regularly played golf until she was 96 years young, when she experienced some difficulty walking the distance required across the course. She was an avid UNC basketball and football fan, never missing to watch the games on TV. She always looked forward to playing dominoes with her children and grand children in the last few years while she lived alone.
She loved to travel with WT, especially to their summer home in Pine Knoll Shores, NC (the “Camp”) and Daytona Beach Shores, FL, where she loved playing golf, relaxing on the beach and talking with her many friends. She boasted that she was the 2013 Women’s Oceans Club Golf Champion in Daytona Beach Shores.
The family wishes to thank the tremendous staff at WakeMed Cary Hospital for their loving care during her last weekend of declining health. The last two days of her life were spent in the hospital playing dominoes with some of her grand children and watching Carolina Basketball - her most enjoyable activities - what a blessing! In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Cary First Baptist Church in remembrance of her life.
A visitation for Marie will be held Friday, December 27, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, Cary, 218 S Academy St, Cary, NC 27511. A funeral service will follow in the sanctuary of First Baptist at 11:00 AM, the graveside commital service will occur afterwards at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh, NC. Memorial tributes and messages of sympathy can be left by clicking the "Add a Memory" box below. Brown Wynne of Cary is honored to serve the Cooper family.
