Laurie Ada McDaniel, 103, of Cary, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Jordan Oaks in Cary. She was born April 3, 1908 in Leesville, Louisiana to the late John J. West and Laura Belle West. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. In 1931 she married Willis W. McDaniel and for 55 wonderful years they lived in Jasper, Texas. After his death in 1986, Laurie lived in Ohio, Georgia, and California to be close to her only child, her son, as his career moves developed. She moved to Cary in 2004 and lived at Woodland Terrace and then moved to Jordan Oaks in late 2011. In her younger years Laurie enjoyed playing bridge and golf. Then later, beautiful embroidery work and crochet were her passions. She kept her mind keen as an avid crossword puzzle worker throughout her life.
She is survived by her son, Bill McDaniel and his wife, Carolyn of Cary, NC; granddaughter, Sharon Azula and her husband, Andy of Midlothian, VA; grandson, David McDaniel and his wife, Bonnie of Cary, NC; great grandchildren, Sophie and Jackson Azula; Reece and Reagan McDaniel. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
A memorial celebration will be held March 3 from 2-3 pm at Jordan Oaks 10820 Penny Road Cary, NC 27518.
