Ken and wife Jean were two of the best neighbors we ever had.  They were always willing to help us with projects, even though the projects were probably not the safest for either of us to work on.  I think of Ken, every time I think of our time in Annandale and miss him very much!—————Jeff KING

To the Family of Dr. Kenneth Johnson,

Dr. Johnson delivered my first baby, a daughter on December 30, 1979 at Alexandria Hospital. He was a kind and funny man. As the daughter of an OB/GYN myself, Dr. Johnson was good spirited when my father kept poking his head into the delivery room to check on things (he couldn't come in because his privileges were in MD and DC only, not Virginia.). Dr. Johnson made it just in time as my labor went fast and he was literally running down the hall snapping his gloves on to get there in time. I will never forget him. Please accept my sincerest condolences.

At the request of my father and Ken’s first cousin, Harold Johnson, Ken and Jean generously hosted me in 1986 at their home in Virginia while I pursued  an internship in Washington, D.C.  He took very good care of me and had a great sense of humor. Years later I had a son who I named Kenneth Harold Johnson. My father teased me that my son was really named after his first cousin and not him! My son was born at the same Alexandria, Virginia hospital where Ken delivered babies  so several nurses informed me they knew and worked with a Kenneth Johnson, and I replied that he was a relative. I also remember Ivar and Elmer visiting often in Connecticut when I was young and they were both the life of the party! I’m sorry that we lost track of my father’s extended Swedish family over the years - although I have been in touch with a few of them on ancestry.com. I’m glad to see that Ken lived a long, happy and meaningful life.

Dr. Johnson was one of the greats! As a doctor he was strict, kind & compassionate to his patients as well as to us nurses who worked with him. He made it so easy to respect him because he returned that respect back! He was so missed after his retirement from Alexandria. RIP Dr. Johnson. Your memories will live forever with those of us who knew you. 

I did not have the privilege to meet this wonderful man but my heart had an urge to express my sympathies.  I only knew him and his lovely wife, through stories and baked treats from Connor  and Elle; my daughter.  What an amazing life well lived and respected. My condolences to you all. 

On 5/28/22   I lost one of the best friends I ever had in my life-
KRGJ-Ken. I find myself heartbroken with unspoken words. We first met when each of our fathers took us to Philadelphia to start medical school at Hahnemann Med School in 1952. We shared many wonderful experiences as roommates and as fraternity brothers of which I will cherish those memories the rest of my life. In 1956 we traveled together throughout the eastern US to pick our internships before we each joined the US Navy.

Always loved it when Uncle Ken and family came up to Blackrock for a visit. Memorable family trip to NH  with uncles, aunts and cousins. Uncle Ken always gave the Best D.C. tours too. A wonderful uncle and family man. 

I will miss my Uncle Ken dearly. I always enjoyed time spent together in Black Rock, Annandale, and Cary.

My wife, Sandi, and I had the great pleasure to live across the street from Jean and Ken Johnson, in Virginia, for many years.  If we weren’t dining out together, we were playing tricks on each other, all in good humor.  Ken once planted a tomato bush in their front yard and anxiously awaited the arrival of fruit.  None had arrived by the time the Johnsons went on vacation, so another neighbor and I taped some plastic strawberries and  a banana on the tomato bush for Ken to find on his return.  We loved hearing Ken’s description of his joy when he first glimpsed them and his confusion upon close examination, every time he told the story thereafter. We will miss Ken dearly but know he has just gone ahead and will watch over us until, one day, we are all together again.

So very sorry for the loss of your father. I know he was adored by all of you. My prayers are with you during your time of grieving. 

I wish I had a photo to share, All I know is that Dr. Johnson was my father’s first cousin. My father died from Parkinson’s in 2006. His name was Harold John Johnson of West Hartford and Farmington CT. My father’s mother was Astrid Sofia Fransdotter Johnson. I recall yearly visits of Ivor and Elmer to my grandmother’s house. in West Hartford CT. I remember that Ivor was a real trickster or magician. All of my life, my father spoke of how proud he was of Ken. I don’t know how often my father (“Hal”) spoke to or visited with Ken but I recall that when I got married in 1987, my father wished Ken would come. But my new spouse and I were just graduating from medical school in Cincinnati OH and were struggling to arrange a wedding remotely because we were living in Cincinnati yet marrying in Farmington CT.  It would be a long drive from VA to CT. I recall that Ken and Jean sent us a sweet note and a wonderful cookbook that featured Hershey’s chocolate recipes. Delicious!

Sorry to have not been able to reconnect. But I do feel a Swedish connection through the generations. We regularly make St Lucia buns, glogg, meatballs, paporkakor, Korv,, Lutfisk, Bruns Bonor, sil and many more Scandinavian foods through out the year.

I offer my humble condolences but I also note that Ken lived a long life filled with lots of love.
