A memorial service for Joe will be held Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 Southeast Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511, followed by a reception from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond G. White and Kathleen Johnson White.
Joe is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary Elizabeth “Liz” White; son, Christopher J. White (Kim) of Holly Springs, NC; daughter, Tanya White Jones (Brad) of Greenville, NC; brother, Charlie White of Concord, NC; grandchildren, Savannah Jones, Joe Henry Jones, Kylie White and William Alexander Morris; step-son, Anthony W. Gordon of Swannanoa, NC; step grandchildren, Christian T. Gordon (Haley), Kasey Collins (Jeremy), several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a large and loving extended family.
Joe graduated from NCSU with a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of the NC State University Alumni Association Forever Club and a long-time and active member of the First Reformed Church of Cary, NC. His work career during his life consisted of RTI International, AT&T, and Goldfinch Sensor Technologies and Analytics.
In addition to being an active member with the Summer Chill Homeowners Association, he also was a proud Amateur Radio operator and Volunteer Examiner and a member of the Raleigh Amateur Radio Society (WA4GIR), Knightlites QRP radio group (WA4GIR, Sir Joe).
He enjoyed NC State athletics, family time, bird watching, gardening, woodworking, home projects, cooking, volunteering and making others happy. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He always loved watching his grandchildren play in their various sporting events. He liked to fish and especially took pleasure in teaching and helping the children (young and old) to fish from our pond.
Whatever Joe was involved in, he always took an active part in it. He was never one who could just sit around. He was always busy. He could fix anything and if he needed something that was not readily available, he would figure out a way to make it. He would rather read a technical manual than a novel. He had a dry sense of humor and could be wicked funny.
Joe was not a particularly formal type in attire. He loved his Hawaiian shirts, especially in the summer. To honor him and bring smiles to all, the family would love to see many wearing Hawaiian shirts at his memorial service/celebration of life on July 29
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to First Reformed Church of Cary PO Box 4373 Cary, NC 27619, or to a charity of your choice.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared below for the White family.
