John S. Dabbs

Quitman, MS

On Saturday, November 9, 2013, John S. Dabbs passed from this earthly life to his Heavenly home where he was greeted by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Also welcoming him home are his beloved wife, Bobbie Nell McNeil Dabbs, parents Gilford Fortner Dabbs, Sr. and Gertrude Hardee Dabbs, as well as brothers G.F. ( Sporty) Dabbs, Jr., William Francis (Billy) Dabbs, Sr., and James Robert (Jimmy) Dabbs.

John was a loving and devoted father to John Dudley Dabbs, wife Melissa, of Apex, North Carolina, and Melinda Dabbs Mangrum, husband Bruce, of Brentwood, Tennessee. His legacy continues through his grandchildren Julia, John, and Thomas Dabbs of Apex, NC, and Molly and Joshua Mangrum, of Brentwood, TN. He is also survived by his sister, Rita (Sis) Dabbs Land of Starkville, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Born in Quitman, MS, on July 13, 1923, Mr. Dabbs was a life-long resident until he moved to Apex, North Carolina, in 2007, where he was cared for with love and devotion.

At the age of 18, John joined the Army, serving his country in the Pacific during WWII. As a member of the 43rd Infantry Division, he was proud to be a member of the "Greatest Generation." Mr. Dabbs was a Christian and member of First Baptist Church, Quitman, MS, where he served for many years as a deacon.

As a farmer and beef cattleman in Clarke County, MS, John S. Dabbs was known for his goodness and friendly, outgoing personality. To know him was to love him. Truly we can agree,

"He fought a good fight, he finished his course, he kept the faith." II Timothy 4:7

A celebration of life will be held in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, Quitman, MS, at 3:30 PM on Saturday, November 16, 2013, officiated by Rev. David Ingram. Visitation will be held from 1:30-3:30 PM prior to the service. A graveside service will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Quitman, MS.
