Jeffrey Mark Peters

Jeffrey Mark Peters was welcomed to the Great Plains of Nebraska by his loving parents, Rod and Rhonda Peters, on June 3, 1980, in Grand Island, Nebraska: a date and place made famous as ‘The Night of the Twisters’. As he grew up irrigating corn and shooting hoops in the backyard with his brother, Brian, and sister, Allison, Jeff developed a love of books, running, academics, and sports that would make him the well-rounded man he became. Hard work and determination earned him top honors at Wood River Rural High School and a full academic scholarship to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, but you’d never know it unless you asked him, as modesty was one of his strongest principles.

As a proud Husker, Jeff balanced academic and social pursuits, earning degrees in English, Biology, and Psychology while making countless friends through his fraternity, classes, and work, all of whom will remember him for his affability and willingness to share a good time with anyone. Jeff’s love of running, Nebrasketball (he always loved an underdog), the Broncos, Mets, and all things Husker were obsessions that stuck with him throughout his life.

Searching for direction after finishing college, Jeff found it in his future wife, Cassie Ramm. Sharing common interests in good coffee, good music, and a zeal for pursuing all the richness that life had to offer, Jeff and Cassie grew a love that sailed them away to North Carolina with the promise of fresh endeavors. There they cultivated new friendships, found fulfillment in careers, and established a home in Cary surrounded by good food, craft beer, live music, and loving friends and neighbors. Jeff established himself in the clinical trials industry, first working at Copernicus Group IRB and then IQVIA (formerly Quintiles) in Infectious Disease therapeutics. Still thirsting for the diverse landscapes that life had to offer, Jeff and Cassie dotted the globe in Italy, Mexico, Croatia, Slovenia, Peru, Iceland, and elsewhere as they logged miles and adventures. No matter the destination, he always mapped out all craft breweries within a 1 hour radius.

Jeff and Cassie’s last and greatest adventure was fulfilling their long dream of becoming parents. They welcomed James Luther in May 2019 and Isla Mae in May 2021. International excursions were replaced with Trombone Shorty video watching, visits to the Cary Library, trips to the park, and walking around their beloved neighborhood - Jeff wouldn’t have had it any other way. He was a master of mundane fatherly tasks, taking delight in daycare pickup, washing bottles, and cooking dinner at the end of the day. Of all the joys and accomplishments Jeff was able to claim, none brought him more happiness than his wife and children.

Though he professed himself to be an introvert, Jeff will be remembered by all those who loved him as the life of the party, able to strike up a conversation with anyone with his wild hand-talking, always seeking to make others feel better about themselves and where they were. He was unfailingly kind, modest, and accommodating of others.

Jeff passed away suddenly at his home on January 27, 2022 at the age of 41, of natural causes. He is survived by his wife, Cassie Ramm, and children, James and Isla of Cary, NC; parents, Rod and Rhonda Peters of Kearney, NE; brother, Brian Peters of Omaha, NE and wife, Ashlie, and children, Kaylei, Conner, Seeley, Aria and Teigan; sister, Allison (Ray Hamel) of Omaha, NE; grandmothers, Lavonne Peters of Kearney, NE and Darlene McLey of Wood River, NE; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his two grandfathers, Luther Peters and Ronald McLey.

A memorial service was held at Bond Brothers Brewery, in Cary, North Carolina on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 from 2-5 pm. A second memorial service in Nebraska is also planned for a later date.
