James C. "Jimmy" Brooks, Jr., 74, of Apex, died Friday, December 22, 2023, after many years of decline from Parkinson's. A native of Roxboro, he was a graduate of Person High School and Campbell University. He was employed with Carolina Power and Light Company and retired, after many years of loyal service, from Oxford University Press.
He was a very loving, gentle, kind, and generous man with a fun-loving spirit and an amazing sense of humor. He enjoyed all types of music and would spend hours listening to his extensive collection of old records, tapes, and CD's. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed nothing more than relaxing with a good book and a cat in his lap.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sally, his sisters Bobbie Gaddy (Jim) of Pleasant Garden and Brenda Lewis (Don) of Ocean Isle. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Selfless to the end, Jimmy was a brain donor, leaving vital tissue to The University of Miami's Brain Endowment Bank™, a National Institutes of Health (NIH) NeuroBioBank, one of six designated brain and tissue biorepositories in the nation. The Brain Endowment Bank encourages brain donation to support medical and scientific researchers, who study the human brain in search of better medications and treatments, and ultimately a cure for brain diseases and disorders.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Transitions Life Care, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607; Brain Endowment Bank, 1951 NW 7th Ave, Miami, FL 33136; or a pet rescue charity of your choice.
