Francis Stanley Myers, aged 92, of Cary, died on April 9. He was born in Martinsburg, West Virginia on October 30, 1931 to Frank Jacob Myers and Sophie Dombek Myers and grew up mainly in Perth Amboy and Sayreville in New Jersey. After serving in the United States Army during the Korean conflict and graduating from Trenton State College, he married Elizabeth Anne Vahle in 1958, celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary in 2023. Together they had six children, three being born in New Jersey and three after their move to Greensboro, North Carolina in 1965. The family moved to Cary in 1986. He worked in the Greensboro Public Schools as a music teacher and after-hours as a musician, including in the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra and the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra, but spent the majority of his career at the Jefferson-Pilot Insurance Company. In retirement he worked at Burt Music and tended to his large vegetable garden. He was an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church for almost 40 years, where he received the Outstanding Service Award and participated in the Knights of Columbus.
Frank Myers was preceded in death by his brother Edward. He is survived by his wife Betty and brothers Charles and Joseph Myers, his children David Myers, Robert Myers, Nancy Palmour, Patricia Dycus, Susan Somma, and Sandra Overby, their spouses Christina Hodgin Myers, Lisa Myers, Steven Dycus, Gregory Somma, and Christopher Overby, 14 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Sunday, April 21, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 Southeast Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 22, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 804 High House Rd, Cary, NC 27513. A committal service will follow the memorial service at Wake Memorial Park, 7002 Green Hope School Rd, Cary, NC 27519.
