Born in Raleigh, NC she was the daughter of the late Jack Hillyer Byrum and the late Violet Mae Stafford Byrum. Dorothy fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. She was a nuturing, compassionate caregiver. Dorothy never met a stranger and always had a warm hug to share.
Dorothy was also preceded in death by her sister, Violet Mae Byrum Matthews.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, C. Lynn Banks; daughter, Bonny Lynn Banks; son, Thaddeus Neal Banks (Donna); grandchildren, Perry Neal Banks (Rianne) and Tyson Greye Banks (Rebecca); great grandson, Benjamin Charles Banks; and a sister, Mary Temple Byrum Conyers.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:00 PM-4:00 PM on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Cary.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations in Dot's memory be made to Transitions LifeCare Hospice, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
