Carolyn R. Powell Churchill

She was born October 12,1962 in Raleigh, NC to late parents Janet H. Powell and Howard P. Powell, Jr.

Carolyn is survived by husband Gary Churchill of the home, daughters Christina Churchill (Cameron) of Apex and Rebecca Churchill (Colby) of Holly Springs, NC. She leaves behind beloved sisters Valerie Bromenschenkel (Ken) of Pittsboro, NC and Sharon Felber of North Palm Beach, Fl.

In addition, Carolyn is survived by mother-in-law Lena Churchill of Greenville, NC, brother-in-law Greg Churchill (Sherri) of Winterville, NC and nieces Shaela Churchill, Brooke Bromenschenkel, Jill Bromenschenkel and nephew Sawyer Churchill. She was preceded in death by father-in-law Bill Churchill and brother-in-law Wayne Felber.

Carolyn was a graduate of North Carolina State University with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Business and Economics and loved cheering on Wolfpack sports teams, particularly Football and Men’s and Women’s Basketball.

She was employed as a Senior Branch Office Administrator by the Cary, NC Edward Jones branch of Certified Financial Planner Jason Jonczak for over twenty years. Carolyn was recognized by her office team members, the regional Edward Jones leadership team and fellow branch office administrators for her leadership roles, customer connection capabilities and results-oriented work ethic.

Carolyn was a member of First Cary United Methodist Church for over 35 years. She was actively involved in the church’s missions and ministries, served on the Education and Computer Committees and engaged in Youth Sunday School classes and activities leadership. She had teaching, administration and communication roles in her well-loved Parables Sunday School Class and is considered the rock who shepherded its members through the Covid crisis. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Women’s Harmony Circle and developed close friendships among its members including Sherry Baughman.

Carolyn enjoyed cooking and was particularly known for baking delicious cookies, cakes and pies. Her Chewy Cheesecake cookies, Peppermint Chocolate fudge, Triple Chocolate pound cakes, Pumpkin Cheesecakes, pecan pies and blueberry pies drew raves when she shared them. She continued the family traditions of baking and sharing Stollen, a German sweet yeast bread, during the Christmas season and Hot Cross Buns for Easter mornings.

Carolyn was a longtime Tupperware Lady and enjoyed showing and selling their products. She liked to stock an ample inventory of products so that she could immediately fill customer orders, and she always placed stocking orders for new product releases so that she could stay knowledgeable and current, much to Gary’s chagrin.

Carolyn was most proud of her role as Mom to daughters Christina and Rebecca. Their achievements reflect her teaching, modeling and support of their church, educational and sports activities. She considered them her legacy.

Carolyn showered her family and friends with unconditional love, grace, kindness and forgiveness through her room-filling presence and personality. She will be greatly missed.

Carolyn’s life will be celebrated in a Service of Death and Resurrection at First Cary United Methodist Church, Cary, NC on Monday, December 16th at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall and guests will have an opportunity to visit with family members and enjoy light snacks.
