Although I didn’t know you for many years, you quickly became my best friend.  I loved everything about you….your kindness, compassion, wit, wisdom, and pure love.  I miss you so much and wish you were here to share life with me.  However, I see you in your daughters’ eyes and in all they do…you left a legacy like no other.  They will carry on the gifts you gave them through your love and guidance….and make you so very proud. May you be joyful in heaven knowing what a gift you were in earth. You were already an angel when you were with us.

Today I mourn on the anniversary of Carol’s passing. I miss her kindness, wit, generosity and love.  She was a one-of-a-kind friend taken from us much, much too soon.  Her love for family and all those she nurtured was her powerful gift.  I miss her and am both angry and sad that we can’t grow old together as best friends as I had planned…but she is always in my heart and I am so very grateful for having her shining light in my life.  I love you Carol….I know you are watching over your beautiful family with pride - and they are living your legacy with grace and all you have taught them on how to live and love.

I was broken hearted to hear of the passing of one of the kindest ladies I have ever met.  I first spoke to Carol when she called to bring Julia to come swim with me 3 months prior to the 2016 US Olympic Trials.  I did not take her faith in me and faith in her daughter lightly.   I soon learned where Julia got her kind heart and caring soul from.  Carol was never pushy and always supportive, volunteering to time or organize meals at away swim meets so the kids could focus on performing.  She was selfless in that way and never wanted any credit.  She treated me as more than just her daughter's coach, always asking about my family and later becoming a close friend with Caroline with whom they shared many laughs and good times.  I will cherish the dinner I shared with Carol and her family at Olympic Trials last summer.  Many people do things for others, but Carol will be remembered for how she made you feel whenever you spoke with her.  Carol's family was fortunate to have her but she was blessed also with the joy and love she received from Rich, Leigh Anne and Julia.  All of us are better for having known Carol.  My thoughts are with her family.

Carol was the kindest soul I have ever met.  She was a great mother, wife, neighbor, friend.  When she shined her light on you, you felt all her warmth and love and kindness.  She will be missed by so many, but that is because she was loved by so many.  The world will be a little less bright without her.

I’m so sorry for this incredible loss. Ms Carol was a huge part of my family’s life during our preschool years and my heart breaks for her family right now. All of the messages I’ve read have one thing in common, her caring heart. I was lucky enough to experience it myself.  I don’t know how she did it. Not only did she love and care for our children, she had a way of letting us parents know that it’s going to be ok and that we are doing a good job.  She knew something I didn’t know and it was such a comfort to me during some of the hardest and most exhausting years of my life. All my love to Carol’s family and friends ❤️

Carol was a wonderful person, an amazing mom and a good friend. Her laugh is infectious and when my children were young we got to spend a lot of time together in Glenridge especially on the swim team. She loved everyone and she will be so deeply missed.

Carol was an amazing woman, friend, wife and mother. She always cared so much about others and their families- always asking how everyone was and what they were up to. She had a genuine love for people, coupled with a such a positive and fun attitude. Carol was one of a kind. I know her legacy will live on in Leigh Anne and Julia- your Mom is so amazingly proud of you both. She will forever live in all our hearts.

I met Carol at a neighborhood gathering and was drawn to her warmth and her smile. When I started working at SF preschool she immediately welcomed me and we’ve been good friends ever since. She could make me laugh until I cried but she also comforted me with a big hug and caring words whenever I needed it. Her family was everything to her and she would light up talking about them. She was a devoted mother and so incredibly proud of her girls. Our world has become dimmer without her in it but I’m sure heaven is a lot brighter. Till I see you again dear friend, Love and hugs.

Carol was one of the most warm and genuinely kind people I’ve ever known. I had the pleasure of being her groomer for Mimi and Bella and going to the same gym. I always looked forward to seeing her and getting to chat. She had a way of making you feel like you had known her for years the first time you met. I will never forget her! My deepest sympathies to her family and Mimi. I will always be grateful I got to know her. 

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I write this.  It has taken a little while for this news to really sink in.  I was blessed to know  Carol through Saint Francis Preschool.  She had been teaching the Toddlers for years before I arrived 9 years ago.  By then, she had already touched so many lives and in the years following, touched so many more.  Carol loved the children, families and teachers at Saint Francis.  You could not only see it, more importantly you could feel it!  

As a new "boss", she not only welcomed me, she took the time to help me learn about the preschool, church and staff.  As a teacher, she taught our littlest friends how to be away from their moms and dads and the moms and dads how to be away from their little ones.  She had a special knack for calming everyone. Carol was organized, thoughtful, caring, kind, dedicated and fun!  Hearing her laugh with the children, parents and fellow teachers was the loveliest sound! Her thoughtfulness in sharing her Toddler and Two's curriculum and ideas with other teachers was so helpful to me as the Director and to them.  We had a lot of great years together at Saint Francis and am so happy to have had her as a friend.  I hated to hear of her diagnosis this past fall and her Saint Francis family wanted to help her in anyway we possibly could.  Cards and texts were sent.  In December, I sent her a picture that popped up on my Memories of her and a Pastor Cameron's twins. The picture made me so happy because that is how she was around her Toddlers.  She promptly responded and thanked me.  We texted back and forth throughout the month.  She wishing me Happy Birthday and me wishing her Merry Christmas.  Near New Years, she updated me on her treatment plan.  I can not tell you how grateful I feel that I was able to have those texts.  I can not tell you how sad I feel that I only got to have her in my life for only 9 years.  My heart so so heavy today and I am praying for peace and strength for her family.

Carol will be dearly missed by everyone at Harmony Animal Hospital. She was one of the sweetest people I've ever met and she loved her Mimi and Bella. Anytime Carol came in, it just brightened our day. She was a huge supporter of our team and it's hard to believe we won't be seeing her now. We are thinking of you all during this difficult time - please let us know if there is anything we can do.

Carol was one of the first to welcome me, when I started working at the preschool. She started as a coworker, but  became a friend. I am so thankful our paths crossed. Her sense of humor was the best! She was so loving  and so very loved! Her love for her family was palpable.  Prayers for your comfort.  

It is hard to explain to people how much love there is between the cousins in our family. And hard to believe that we have lost one of them. Carol was always in my life when I was young and so very kind and thoughtful. She always made my life and what was going on for me seem important. That is a great gift. It was genuine caring for someone and she seemed to remember everything that we ever spoke about. I am very sad about her passing. We were very blessed to have her in our mix. She showed me so much about kindness and caring for others. So fortunate for me to know such a person. 

Carol was one of the nicest people I have met.  She was warm, giving and had a great sense of humor.  I fortunately met her through her sister, Beth, and we forged a wonderful friendship.  She will always be in my heart, and I am grateful for having had the opportunity to know her.  I was 22 years old when I lost my mother to multiple myeloma (a bone cancer). Prayers for strength during this difficult time.

Carol was kind and thoughtful. She was a wonderful listener and was genuinely interested in the lives of others. My wish is that her spirit be an inspiration to us all. Peace, love and strength to her family at this sad time. 

Carol was always a friendly face at the Glenridge Gator meets. I loved her positive attitude and beautiful smile. She will truly be missed. My prayers go out to her girls and her husband.

Even in a room full of people and distractions, Carol focused intently on people and the conversations at hand. She made you feel like you were the only person in the room.  Her kindnesses and authenticity stands out among so many of the wonderful traits she had.  I will miss her and our fun conversations about school, kids, and swimming.  She was a magnetic, wonderful person and will be missed.

I am so sorry for the loss of such a beautiful soul, friend,  amazing wife and mother. Carol was a friend to everyone with the biggest heart. She was such a wonderful neighbor. My deepest condolences to Rich, Leigh Anne and Julia. I am so glad she got to see her girls’ grow up and their accomplishments.  She will continue to envelope you with her love and spirit until you one day meet again. My heart breaks for you all during this difficult time. I absolutely LOVED sitting in the stands with Carol while we watched fabulous swimmers be their personal best.   She cheered on EVERY child and made the time more enjoyable.  She always had a sweet smile to share with those around her and she consistently brightened any space she occupied.   

Ms. Carol was my daughter Chandler’s Two’s preschool teacher, but she became so much more to our family.  I vividly remember the first time I ever spoke to her - she called to introduce herself as Chandler’s teacher, and we immediately hit it off and talked a lot longer than I anticipated. I knew she was the perfect person to trust my girl with. Chandler just adored her, and Ms. Carol made it known that the feeling was mutual. Chandler even peed in her pants while sitting on her lap one day, but Ms. Carol thought it was funny and told me at pickup that she was just thankful she had an extra pair of pants with her that day (the oh so fun potty training year!). I’m also 99% sure that she & Ms. Reyne are the reason Chandler is so obsessed with sweets..ha! They loved to give the kids candy as they left each day, and Chandler always looked forward to it. We were so sad when our year with her came to an end, but looked forward to stopping by her classroom the following year to get a few hugs & catch up - she was always quick to give an unexpected compliment and say how much she loved our family. Even after she retired from St Francis, she always kept in touch with us, sending Christmas cards & texting me on Chandler’s birthday each year, wishing her “Chandler Quinn” a great kindergarten year, and even messaging me this past summer to be sure to watch her Julia swim on tv. She was so, so proud of her girls and spoke of them often! Carol truly was one of a kind, and one of the most special people I have ever met. I’m so thankful for all of the wonderful memories we had with her, she was so loved & will be so incredibly missed. 

It is hard to say something new that has not already been said by so many loving friends and family. Carol was truly special.

What a different and beautiful world this would be if we had more people like Carol in our lives.

Miss Carol was my sons preschool teacher and she was the sweetest most loving teacher ever. She had a gift with those toddlers and truly loved them. I’m so sorry to hear of her passing and will keep her family and friends in my prayers. 

Carol was a second mom to me when I needed one most and I'll be forever grateful for our time together.  She was a supportive friend and put all others first, always. She would  follow up to see how I was doing and celebrated victories and cried sad tears with me when I needed someone. I hope that everyone finds a friend like Carol at some point in their lives.  She cherished her girls and loved them so much, everyone that knew Carol, knew that.  My heart is mourning.  Sending all of my love, thoughts and prayers. 

In 2009 Ms. Carol was  my daughter’s preschool teacher at St. Francis United Methodist Church. The dynamic duo of Ms. Carol and Ms. Trish made every day the best with their sweet smiles, abundance of hugs, kind words of encouragement…and that was just what they did for the parents! Over a decade later I ran into Carol on the pool deck. She remembered me instantly and even recalled my daughter’s name. We are grateful to have shared in her story and we will cherish our memories of Ms. Carol. We send our deepest sympathies to her family. 

There is little I can add to the wonderful things that have already been said about Carol, and I agree with them all.   As she was my closest Shaughnessy cousin in age, I always felt a special bond with her, especially after she also moved south and joined Claire and me here in the Raleigh area (3 of the 20 Shaughnessy cousins).   She was always extremely kind, loving and supportive, and her love for her family was unmistakable.    She will surely be missed, but never forgotten....

The Swim Team Mom!!!  Carol took care of the NC STATE Swimming & Diving Teams!  Invites to the house, home cooked meals and all the cheering you can dream of. Carol was such a huge supporter of myself and and my family; always asking how my wife and kids are....she always put others before herself!!  An amazing woman, the Wolfpack Family will always cherish our time with Carol Poole.

We were a pack of 20 cousins, now we are 19. How can that be? We lost one of what made us, us. Our sweet Carol Souhrada Poole.  For me she and her mind held many of my childhood stories, which she recanted always with a twinkle in her eye.  In the past years we have shared many texts and calls. My cousin was one to never leave you doubting she loved you. Her faith was strong. Here are some words from her last text to me on Jan 20 after my surgery. 

Claire, thank you so much for the wonderful news. I can’t tell you how happy I am for you. All glory to God! He is good!! I love you very much!!

How I wish that I could have sent those same words to her about her illness; to rejoice with her. I now have solace she’s earned her eternal reward in heaven. 

She loved her girls and husband so deeply. She showed us faith and to express love.  I am thankful she is no longer in pain.

I cherish my times with Carol because they were always filled with laughter and happiness. She made me feel special and cared for which is a superpower of hers. That smile lit up everything around her. I will miss her.

From the first time I meet Carol, I knew we would be friends.  Her welcoming spirit, beautiful smile and infectious laugh drew everyone to her.  Working at swim meets, PNC, and Walnut Creek was not work when Carol was around.  First thing Carol would always say, “what can I do to help?”

I met Carol in my first years as a teacher.  I was Leigh Anne's 4th grade teacher at Penny Road.  Mrs. Poole offered this new teacher so much love and support....which was much needed and much appreciated.   I will never forget the kindness and grace that Mrs. Poole showed to me during that year!  Prayers for her family!

I had the pleasure of working with Carol for 9 years at St Francis preschool .  We still kept in touch .  We had so many fun times together .   I will miss her .  Prayers for Ritchie , Leigh Anne and Julia .

Carol exuded warmth. It was always such a pleasure to see her whenever I bumped into her at various swim meets. I first met Carol about 7 years ago when Raz Cupernico suggested that I call her for advice about the triangle area when we were moving here from CT. She was so incredibly kind and helpful. When I finally got to meet Carol in person I learned how truly kind and warm-hearted she was. She always spoke humbly about her amazing daughters who I know she loved with all her heart. She is surely an angel looking over them. Our prayers are with the entire Poole family. 

Mrs. Carol Poole was one of the most thoughtful and kindest client/friend I ever knew.  She was an amazing person with a huge heart.  Carol was everyone's biggest cheerleader it seemed.  She loved her family unconditionally and friends as well.  I'm going to miss seeing her smile and warm hugs coming and going as well as our many conversations on life, love, TV shows and movies during her hair appointments with me.  She loved both of her daughters and her husband dearly and would often share stories of their accomplishments.  She was not only a great client, neighbor, teacher, mother, wife, and a friend, but also an example of what's meant by a good Christian woman.  Our loss is truly heaven's gain.  My prayers, thoughts, and heart is with her family and closest friends at this time.  Please let me know if there's anything I can do.   

We were fellow TAC parents who worked with Carol at PNC and Walnut Creek. She was such a kind and friendly person and it was always fun to run into her after those years to say hi and catch up. We can never be fully prepared for the death of someone we love. However, God is always prepared to lovingly welcome them into His presence for eternity. I went to high school with Carol and remember her as a kind and caring person.  Used to run in to her when she worked in Brightwaters post office before we both relocated to NC.  My condolences to her family at this most difficult time.
