Candace Gottfried

Candace Duncan Gottfried was born on December 18th, 1967 in Fayetteville, NC to Herbert Wayne Duncan and Ada Faye Duncan. The middle child of three children, Candace loved her older sister Denise and younger brother Van Wayne, and all of her extended family.

Always involved in church her entire life, as a child Candace was a member of Green Springs Baptist Church in Parkton, NC, where she learned and believed the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and what it means to be his disciple.

This is also where she met Scott Gottfried, who would become her high school sweetheart and husband of 34 years. Candace and Scott had four children, Aubrie (Kyle), Maria, Justin, and Ethan, and five grandchildren (Owen, Selah, Lydia, Paisley, and Simon) and a sixth on the way.

Candace cherished her family and friends, with many outside her family calling her mom and grandma. She was never not serving someone. Whether it was her family, students during her teaching career, families in her church (Fairview Baptist Church), her entire life could be described as a life of service to her Lord. She loved serving in every area of the church, but had a special heart for children’s ministry and missions. All the children at Fairview knew and loved Ms. Candace. Her service to the Lord took her overseas, as she spent many weeks in Hungary, Romania, and Ukraine sharing the Gospel to children.

Candace took every opportunity to travel with her family and friends. She spent countless weeks on Caribbean cruises, road trips out West, and beach trips to Oak Island.

Everyone who knew her knows she is worshiping right now at the feet of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and we look forward to seeing her again in the new heavens and new earth.

Funeral service officiated by pastors Matt Capps and Eddie Thompson. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 22, 2024 at Fairview Baptist Church from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Fairview Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. The graveside committal service at Green Springs Baptist Church Cemetery,1095 E. Green Springs Rd., Parkton, NC will follow on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Guest are invited to a dinner reception following the graveside service at a near by family home.
