Barbara Craig Kelly, 83, of Cary, NC, died January 20, 2011. She was born in Framingham, MA on February 22, 1927 to George Norton Lovatt and Dorothy Felton Moore Lovatt. Barbara moved to Charlotte, NC after her husband Thomas Craig, Jr. was transferred out of MA. She was married to Thomas Craig, Jr. for 36 years and resided in Charlotte for nearly 30 years. She was married to Col. Earle Kelly for 3 years. They resided in Carolina Shores, NC. Both Thomas and Earle were graduates of Norwich University and fought during WWII. During WWII, Barbara began volunteering with the American Red Cross. After the war, she joined the Red Cross National Emergency Response Team assisting with natural disasters all over the country. Barbara’s favorite thing to do was entertain her family and friends in her home. She absolutely loved the beach and started the P.E.O. Chapter in Myrtle Beach, NC. Her favorite color was blue.
She is survived by her son, Thomas D. Craig, III and wife, Georgia and grandchildren, Casey L. Craig, Courtney A. Craig, Amanda Kelly and David Kelly.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her brother, Norton Lovatt.
A memorial service will be held 1:00p.m. Monday, January 24, 2011 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary.
The family would like to thank Beverly Behm, who was Barbara’s caregiver for 2 years, and the nurses and staff at Sunrise Assisted Living of Cary.
