Vera Waters Purcell

Mrs. Purcell was born on August 4, 1930 in Cherokee County, GA, daughter of the late John Cleveland Waters and Maybelle Pace Waters.

Mrs. Purcell was a true and faithful servant of the Lord and a proud and active member of East Calhoun Church of God and was also a former member of Peeple’s Valley Community Church. She loved talking on the telephone with her sisters and also with her prayer partner, Teresa Short. She was known to all as a spunky spitfire who wasn’t afraid to express her feelings to others. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading her Bible and going to Gondolier’s for a delicious spaghetti dinner.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of forty-four years, Edwin Purcell; daughter, Deborah Hendrix; son-in-law, J.L. Hendrix.

Survivors include her son, Rick (Debbie) Payne of Sail Creek, TN; granddaughter, Alecia (Jamie) Finchum; brothers, J.C. (Caroline) Waters of Cartersville, GA, L.D. (Ruth) Waters of Cartersville, GA and Clarence Delano Waters of Cartersville, GA; sisters, Irene Satterfield of White, GA, Edith Beraden of Soddy Daisy, TN, Geraldine Bell of Cartersville, GA and Pearl (Woody) Noles of Cartersville, GA; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family would like to give a special thanks for the tender care given to Mrs. Purcell by her care takers, Holly Chapman and Teresa Meyer.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 23rd of August, 2016 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Pastor Keith Reid and Holly Chapman officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Sunset Memory Gardens with an escorted cortege.

Serving as pallbearers are Shane Garner, Clark Milsap, Jerry Satterfield, Justin Bell, Rex Bearden, Ronnie Bearden and Jamie Finchum.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Willie Dismuke and Joshua Young.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the evening until nine on Monday, the 22nd of August, 2016 at Owen Funeral Home.
