Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, Theron and Zelma Shultz, sisters, Sally Bell and Virginia Shultz, and brother, James L. Shultz. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nelda Sue Shultz; son, Matt (Stephanie) Shultz; daughter, Whitney Shultz Dailey; and grandchildren: Sydney Shultz, Austin Shultz, Allison Dailey, Katlyn Dailey, and Anniston Shultz. He is also survived by his sister, Henrietta Sheffield (Jeff); brother, Timothy Shultz; sister-in-law, Linda Jeffries; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Tom worked as a teacher, coach, and administrator for Bartow County Schools for over thirty years serving at Cass High School, White Elementary, and Emerson Elementary School. He also worked as a seasonal park ranger for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for many summers. Tom loved going to the beach with his family and friends, cheering for Kentucky Basketball and UGA Football, and discussing politics and American History. He attended Douglas Street United Methodist Church for many years and more recently attended CrossPoint City Church. He is known for loving education, his family, politics, and, above all, his faith.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted on Saturday, June 24 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Jacobs officiating. The interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens with Todd Jeffries, Eric Jeffries, Troy Dailey, Todd Conway, Austin Shultz, and Wilson Matthews serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 23, 2023, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Saturday June 24, 2023, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.
