Thomas "Gene" Eugene Perry

Thomas Eugene “Gene” Perry – Age 87 of Adairsville, GA passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, June 16, 2023. Gene was born June 3, 1936 in Bartow County to the late Jesse and Jessie Carver Perry.

Gene was educated in Bartow County till the 10th grade. As a cattle, goat and hay farmer until his 80’s he knew a lot about hard work. Gene retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company with 44 years and 3 months of service. He also worked with his sisters at 4 Way Restaurant and drove a school bus for Bartow County Schools. He would be described as a hard worker with always something to do and having that “get things done” determination about him. Gene enjoyed family gatherings, tending to his cattle and goats, attending cattle sales and gardening. He was a member for many years at Sam Jones United Methodist and most recently at Oothcalooga Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Zelma Ray Perry; wife, Sara Holmes Hartley Perry and 4 siblings.

Gene is survived by his sisters, Sue Brockman (Bob), Pete Starnes (Don) and Linda Wilson; children, Michael G. Hartley (Linda Ann); Linda Kay Hartley and Kelly Hartley Hackney (Tim) and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of life Service will be conducted in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 2pm with the Bro. Michael Hunt officiating. Family will receive friends from 12-2pm prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cartersville.
