She was a devoted wife and mother and her family was the center of her life. Mary was born in Kennesaw, GA, on November 13, 1928, to the late Mary Lena Lusk Leonard and William Herschel Leonard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Dees “Bill” Satterfield. They were happily married for fifty years.
Mary graduated from Cass High School GA, Class of 1945, where she played basketball. She worked and retired from EZ Mills/Spring City Knitting after 35 years. During that time, she developed many friendships. Mary always enjoyed cooking and gardening.
Mary loved the Lord and was a long-time dedicated member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in White, GA. She faithfully led the singing during Sunday morning worship services, taught the children’s Sunday School class and helped with Vacation Bible School.
Mary is survived by her son, Billy Wayne Satterfield (Deb Miller); her grandson, Corey Satterfield (Holly Donaldson and daughter Ruth Pack); and her granddaughter, Leslie Satterfield; all of Harrison, TN; and two sisters-in-law, Faye Satterfield and Irene Satterfield, both of White, GA. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive to cherish her memory.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Mary’s long-time dear friends, Trisha and Butch Hendrix and family; special Hospice nurse, Leona White; and caregiver Sandra Banks.
A Celebration of Mary’s life will be conducted Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at 1:00 pm, in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home; 12 Collins Drive; Cartersville, GA, 30120, with Reverend Byron Tillery and Reverend Dennis Williams officiating.
Interment will follow at Thedford H. Satterfield Memorial Cemetery at Mount Olive Baptist Church; 775 Mount Olive Church Lane; White, GA 30184. Corey Satterfield, Jerry Satterfield, Roger Alexander, Robbie Holmes, Tommy Bettis, and Will Bettis will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Owen funeral Home from twelve o’clock noon until the service hour.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in Mary’s honor to Mount Olive Baptist Church; C/O William Hendrix; 238 White Road; White, GA 30184.
The family respectfully requests that “social distancing”, wearing masks at all times, and all CDC measures be adhered to at the funeral home and cemetery. Masks will be available.
