Mary Jo Brooks Gayton, 79, answered the call from her Heavenly Father on Thursday, July 7, 2016. She is the daughter of the late Ralph Lester Brooks and Mary Valerie "Red" Knox Brooks. In addition to her parents, she was preceeded in the promotion to Heaven by her husband of thirty-five years, Herbert Lee Gayton and a son, Thomas Andrew "Andy" Gayton. Mary Jo was well known in the community for her artistic talents and was involved for many years in art festivals including Rose Lawn, Pine Log, River Fest and Panorama of Antiques, Arts & Crafts in Marietta. Prior to retirement, Mary Jo was employed with United States Industrial Supply Company in Cartersville, Georgia.
Surviving are a son, David Lee Gayton; daughter and son in law, Jody and Rodney Grizzle; daughter in law, Linda Baker; grandchildren, Brooks and Roxanne Gayton, Mallory Gayton, Joshua Grizzle and Jonathan Grizzle; great-grand daughters, Layla Gayton and Skyla Gayton. Sister, Evelyn Wiggins; nephew and his wife, Jeff and Katie Wiggins and niece and husband, Jennifer and Mark Matthews; great-niece, Amelia Wiggins and great-nephews Garrett Wiggins and Knox Matthews; special cousins, Elaine Hight and Rochelle Moore; and godson Wesley Green. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. David Kim, Dr. Melissa Rhodes, Dr. Satyen Mehta, Dr. Manny Gallego, and the staff of Radiation Oncology, Star Manor and Cartersville Medical Center.
Mary Jo was a member of Rowland Springs Baptist Church and attended Pine Grove Baptist Church.
A Home-Going Celebration service will be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 11th of July, 2016 at Pine Grove Baptist Church, 93 Pine Grove Rd., Cartersville, GA, with Rev. Clinton Green officiating. Interment will follow with an escorted cortege in Rowland Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Lamar Payne, Wesley Green, Tim Sharpe, Jimmy Fletcher, Jeff Wiggins and Greg Hight.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from four o’clock in the afternoon until nine o’clock in the evening on Sunday, the 10th of July, 2016 at Owen Funeral Home.
