Helen Upchurch, age 92, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2015. Mrs. Upchurch was born on June 8, 1923 in Cartersville, GA, daughter of the late William Collier and Azzie Martin Collier. Mrs. Upchurch was a devout Christian and a true and faithful servant of the Lord. She was a homemaker, who cherished cooking for her family and spending quality time with her grandchildren. One of her favorite hobbies was crocheting blankets for everyone she knew. She was steadfast in her faith and she will be missed greatly by her family. She is preceded in death by her first husband of forty-four years, George Wesley Latimer; her second husband, Lake Upchurch; brothers, Gomer and Carl Collier; sisters, Elda Bowling, Vivian Flemming and Grace Dawkins; son-in-law, John Whatley. Survivors include her son, Phillip Latimer (Jenny) of Silver Creek, GA; daughter, Cherry Whatley of Plainville, GA; grandchildren, Greg Whatley (Denise), Leah Gentry (Paul), Trudy Ritter (James), Jessica Chester (Stewart), Judson Latimer (Jordan) and Jake Latimer (Carrie); sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sister, Maggie Franklin (Marvin) of Americus, GA. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at three o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, November 29, 2015 in the Chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Dr. Don Hattaway officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Greg Whatley, Judson Latimer, Jake Latimer, Paul Gentry, Stewart Chester, James Ritter and Steven Whatley.
